Postecoglou’s saving grace after a dismal domestic campaign lies in Europe, where the Australian has a chance to make history by guiding Spurs to their first piece of major silverware since their League Cup triumph in 2008, under Juande Ramos.

However, with victory in the competition not even a guarantee that Postecoglou keeps his job for next season, attention is beginning to turn to who could replace the former Celtic boss in N17.

Alternatively, if he were to leave the States, Pochettino would “love” to re-join Tottenham, and Levy is said to be “aware” of this. The 53-year-old would also be Levy’s first choice to replace Postecoglou, given their already-close relationship and communication.

After a string of lacklustre results with the USA, Pochettino is also said to be under pressure, and he is very much in Levy’s thought process as a potential replacement for Postecoglou.

The former Southampton, Chelsea and PSG boss won a Ligue 1 title with the latter, and he appears to currently be one of three trophy-winning managers under consideration by Spurs – the other two being Glasner and Inzaghi.

RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons appears to be one of the main targets for the summer, with INEOS reportedly sanctioning a £115m+ offer for the Dutchman, despite the financial difficulties at Old Trafford.

However, there have also been suggestions that Man United could look at bringing in a cheaper alternative, with a report from The Telegraph revealing they are now monitoring developments around Manchester City attacking midfielder James McAtee.

McAtee’s future at the Etihad Stadium is up in the air, as he is set to enter the final year of his contract this summer, and he wants to receive regular game time next season, having only played a sporadic role for City this term.

There is widespread interest in the 22-year-old, with the likes of Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen also in the picture, so there could be stiff competition for his signature.

"Exceptional" McAtee needs regular game time

The 22-year-old is now at an age where he needs to receive regular game time, but Pep Guardiola has been unwilling to give the attacking midfielder a consistent run in the side, often limiting him to appearances from the substitutes’ bench.

However, the Englishman has impressed when given the opportunity, scoring seven goals in all competitions this season, while he also caught the eye of reporter Ryan Taylor during his time with Sheffield United.

Back in January, it was reported Man City would be willing to cash-in on the Salford-born midfielder for just £25m, which feels like a fair fee, given his talent.

However, it seems very unlikely that City would be willing to sell McAtee to their bitter rivals, especially considering there is widespread interest from other English and foreign clubs.

This summer presents the first major opportunity for Ruben Amorim to make wholesale changes to his Manchester United squad after taking the reins back in November.

The 40-year-old oversaw the January transfer window, but the one-month period wasn’t enough time for the manager to offload and sign players to improve his squad.

It’s safe to say transfers are needed, with the Red Devils currently occupying 13th place in the Premier League, sitting 15 points off the top four with just seven matches remaining.

Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven have both already arrived at Old Trafford under Amorim’s time in charge, with the pair proving to be money well spent – with the left-back cementing his place as a result starter since his £30m transfer.

If the side are to progress in 2025/26, such additions are needed when the window opens in a few months, with one player already emerging as a key target ahead of the summer.

He’s been the Seagulls’ number-one choice between the sticks this season, keeping six clean sheets in his 29 Premier League appearances – playing a key role in their hunt for European football.

The report states that the Red Devils have asked about a potential deal in the coming months, but that no fee has been touted for a move to Old Trafford.

It would be yet another key addition made by the club’s hierarchy, allowing Amorim to sign an upgrade on one player currently plying his trade in the North West.

Why Verbruggen would be an upgrade on Onana for United

Senegalese international Andre Onana has struggled to make a huge positive impact for United since his £47m move from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old was seen as the perfect replacement for the outgoing David de Gea, but nearly two years on, he’s failed to deliver – leading to major criticism about his performances.

This season alone, Onana has made three errors leading to goals in the Premier League, undoubtedly contributing to their lowly standing in 2024/25, with Amorim needing to make a brutal call over his future.

His showing against Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night was another example of his inability to deliver, being at fault for both of the hosts’ goals – proving Nemanja Matic’s claim right in the process.

There’s no denying that the Red Devils would’ve returned from France with a lead heading into the second leg, but his unforgivable mistakes could see the side end the season trophyless.

Such showings have led to rumours over a move for Verbruggen, with the current Brighton star massively outperforming the former Inter Milan ace in numerous key areas throughout 2024/25.

The Dutchman, who’s been labelled “unbelievable” by journalist John Bennett, has saved more shots per 90 this campaign, whilst also stopping more crosses – offering that commanding presence the Red Devils have lacked.

Given the mistakes made by the 29-year-old in recent years, the club simply can’t afford to stick with him next season, undoubtedly missing out on more key points if he remains the number one option.

They may lose a hefty chunk on their big-money investment, but they desperately need to offload him when the window opens, with Verbruggen a great option to replace the error-prone shot-stopper.

“No matter what we say, Tottenham is a very lucrative job, and it’s one any manager would be interested in. They’re a big club, regardless of how well they’re doing on the pitch.

“Silva has done a very good job with Fulham, when you look at the stature of the club and the finances he has available to him. But I get the feeling he has taken them as far as they can go by challenging for Europe.

“I think after that we had four or five very open situations to score the second one. The Italian and Arsenal’s recruitment team have been looking at signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, with his contract due to expire this summer as things stand.

The 29-year-old, who was once valued at £137 million during his time at Man City, was thought to be closing in on a new deal at the Allianz Arena, despite Arsenal recently holding talks with Sane in April.

That was according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who has now shared another fresh update on his situation in what could be considered a boost for Arsenal.

Plettenberg writes that Sane’s old team were very close to finalising fresh terms to stay at Bayern, but in a late twist, the winger informed their sporting director, Max Eberl, that he’s now changed representatives.

The German has employed super-agent Pini Zahavi, and Sane informed Eberl of this on Sunday night. This has thrown a spanner in the works, as it is “questionable” that Bayern would agree to any new terms proposed by Zahavi at this stage.

Plettenberg adds that Arsenal are still contending for Sane in the background, so the prospect of a switch to the Emirates remains very much alive.

Since joining the Bavarians, Sane has bagged 61 goals and 54 assists in all competitions, so his quality is in no doubt, but Arsenal won’t be keen on paying his £245,000-per-week wages.

This season has been an undeniably strange one for Arsenal.

Williams, on the other hand, would cost significantly more, at £50m, but he too has enjoyed a great campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in 44 games.

However, recent reports have now touted another creative attacker for a move to the Emirates: Francisco Trincão.

According to a recent report from the Portuguese newspaper Record, as relayed by the Metro, Arsenal are one of three Premier League sides to have begun talks with Sporting CP for the dynamo.

Manchester United are reportedly one of the other teams incredibly interested in the Portuguese international, who has a release clause in his current deal worth around £66.5m.

It would be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Trincão’s immense ability, it’s one worth fighting for, especially as he could be Arsenal’s own Fernandes.

So, if Arsenal can beat the Red Devils to Trincão’s signature this summer, what is it that could make him like their Fernandes?

Well, to start with, there are several more surface-level similarities between the pair, such as them both being Portuguese, both coming from Sporting CP, moving to one of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ and doing so at 25 years old.

However, there is another far more significant similarity between the two players, one that transcends their positional differences: their creativity.

For all the criticism that has been levelled at Fernandes in recent years, one thing that hasn’t been questioned is his technique and ability to either produce assist after assist or score goals himself.

For example, in 285 appearances for United, he has scored 98 goals and provided 85 assists, which comes out to a brilliant average of a goal involvement every 1.55 games.

Now, while the incredibly “exciting” Trincão, as dubbed by former Wolverhampton Wanderers technical director Scott Sellars, hasn’t quite hit those heights this term, he’s still seriously impressed, scoring nine goals and, more importantly, providing 18 assists in 50 appearances, which comes out to a goal involvement every 1.85 games.

Just imagine if Arsenal had a player that creative in the team this season; there is a real chance that they’d have at least been in the Premier League title fight for a little while longer.

Ultimately, while it would cost a lot, Arsenal should do what they can to sign Trincão this summer, as he would add some much-needed creativity to the team, and could even become their own Fernandes.

The Lilywhites have suffered 18 top flight defeats this season, and they’re just one game away from equalling their record number of Premier League losses in a single season.

It’s been a dismal 2024/25 on the English front, with Spurs also out of every domestic cup. Postecoglou could yet save Tottenham’s season by clinching the Europa League and winning the club’s first piece of major silverware since the League Cup in 2008, which would also gift the north Londoners a spot in next season’s Champions League draw.

European glory still may not be enough to save Postecoglou, though, with Law claiming chairman Daniel Levy and the 59-year-old could still part ways, even if success does come in the Europa.

This follows on from a similar report courtesy of John Cross in The Mirror, so Postecoglou’s potential N17 exit is gaining more traction amid rumours of Spurs eyeing the likes of Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva.

Both tacticians have impressed at their respective clubs this term, with Fulham and Bournemouth still outside contenders to qualify for Europe despite operating on shoe-string budgets compared to their more elite rivals.

Bournemouth are attempting to agree a new deal with Iraola, though, while Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan has admitted the club would love to keep Silva at Craven Cottage.

That being said, Iraola and Silva’s contracts both contain release clauses, with the latter’s coming in at around £8 million.

Previous reports have suggested that Silva has emerged as a frontrunner for the Tottenham job (talkSPORT), with Iraola more inclined to remain at Bournemouth, so the Portuguese’s potential appointment could be one to watch.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, reliable journalist Ben Jacobs has shared his own update on Spurs’ pursuit of the former Everton and Hull City boss.

He reports that Tottenham are indeed looking at hiring Silva, and Levy is set for a “big decision” over the club’s next potential manager.

“Tottenham have got a big decision to make during the summer,” said Jacobs.

Silva’s former striker at Hull, Evandro, recently heaped praise on the 47-year-old as a “master” tactician, with his statement making an interesting read for Spurs supporters.

“He is a master,” said the player to Premier League Brasil.

“I like to put Marco Silva on the same level as Sampaoli, because he has a management model that I also look up to. Marco Silva has an excellent way of managing the group and his greatest characteristic is being rational and not emotional.

“I believe that in this role as a coach, if you let emotions take over, things get lost easily, because in football you have to deal with fans and the press.”

Tottenham showcased true professionalism to get the job done on a tough, hostile night in Germany, with Postecoglou’s side keeping their nerve on away soil and earning serious praise from their manager.

“Yeah, I’m delighted with many things, super proud of the lads,” said Postecoglou after Tottenham’s win at Eintracht.

“Going away from home, a quarter-final against a very good side, you know you’re going to have to work really hard, be really disciplined, and we needed to score. We had to show the quality we had as well.

“To a man, I just thought they were outstanding, so proud of them. In such a big game, they delivered a performance, and it means we’re through to a semi-final. I think over the two legs we deserved to go through. It could have been all over in the first leg, but we earned the right to be in the semi.”

Playmaker James Maddison put his body on the line to win Spurs the penalty which ultimately proved decisive, but according to talkSPORT pundit Troy Deeney, the England international is one of four players who could be sacrificed in the transfer market by chairman Daniel Levy.

As well as Maddison, Deeney believes fellow big-name Son Heung-min could leave Tottenham soon.

“For me, he’s done a good job blooding the younger players and giving them the confidence to go and score a lot,” said Deeney on talkSPORT this week.

“Brennan Johnson, what is he on, about 16 goals now? I think they’re in a transition period, I think you could see the likes of Son [Heung-min] move on. Potentially [James] Maddison, [Yves] Bissouma, Richarlison, these guys will start moving on.

“And then obviously they have a lot of young players like Mikey Moore, but I still think they’re a little bit like Chelsea. They need one, maybe two, older pros just to be like, ‘We don’t do that here, this is how you win things.’

“And that’s the bit I think that they’re missing.”
