Arsenal fans slammed KaneCaught Gabriel on his jaw with his elbowGunners held to a 2-2 draw at homeWHAT HAPPENED?

The former Tottenham Hotspur star narrowly escaped a red card on his return to England after he caught Arsenal defender Gabriel with a swinging elbow. Kane did get a booking for his actions, however, Gooners felt that the forward should have been handed a direct red card.

AdvertisementWHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Arsenal fans at @theshortfuse were not impressed with Kane, posting on X: "Every Arsenal supporter knows that Harry Kane is that kind of player. He looked where Gabriel was and popped him with an elbow in the neck/jaw. Despicable player. Has always been one. Tries to hurt defenders."

Another fan, @eduardohaghn, demanded a red card for the Bayern star as he wrote: "That’s a red card for Kane. Elbow on the throat."

Meanwhile, @SuburbanGooner had some very strong words for the Bayern star: "Kane – a deliberate elbow. Not quite enough for a red but that’s the kind of scum move Kane has made a career of."

Another user @afcjzmes called the England captain a 'nasty' player as he wrote, "Kane is a nasty, nasty footballer. Took a look for where Gabriel was and gave him a straight elbow to the face."

And @afcstuff felt it was a deliberate move by the striker: "Only a yellow card for Harry Kane for what looks like an intentional elbow on Gabriel Magalhães."

WHAT THE PUNDITS ARE SAYING

CSB correspondent James Benge did not seem too surprised by the incident. He wrote on X, "Harry Kane is that sort of player."

Football London journalist Kaya Kaynak added, "Kane booked for an elbow on Gabriel. Naughty that as he checked to see the #AFC defender coming."

And Marca's Chris Winterburn felt the Bayern star got away with one, posting: "Kane is lucky there."

Bukayo Saka handed the hosts the lead in the 12th minute but former Gunners star Serge Gnabry cancelled the English winger's strike six minutes later as he netted the equaliser. Just minutes after the half an hour mark, Leroy Sane was brought down inside the penalty with Kane converted the resulting spot-kick to put his team in front. In the 76th minute, Gabriel Jesus made a brilliant move as he went past a couple of Bayern defenders before finding Leandro Trossard who found the back of the net.

Aí passou do limite.

BCCI forced to reschedule matches due to unavailability of umpires

The board is still grappling with the logistical challenges of its biggest-ever season, and that has forced some women’s and age-group matches to be pushed back

Sidharth Monga31-Oct-2018

Saba Karim said that once the schedule was reworked, the BCCI had sufficient match officials•AFP

On the eve of the start of the Ranji Trophy, the state units have received a letter from the BCCI asking them to adjust the logistics and travel arrangements of their teams in three different events because of the unavailability of umpires and match officials for those days.In a press conference in August, called to apprise the media of the BCCI’s readiness to stage India’s biggest-ever domestic season, Saba Karim, the GM of cricket operations, had said the BCCI was still recruiting more umpires keeping in mind the increased number of matches this season, but he had also promised the quality of the personnel would not be compromised. With newer teams entering the fray in accordance with the Lodha Committee’s recommendations – there are 37 teams in the Ranji Trophy this season, up from 28 last season – Karim said the BCCI was going from organising 900 matches a year to over 2000. As on August 31, the BCCI still needed about 15 more umpires and 12 match referees, not to mention more scorers and video analysts.Karim told ESPNcricinfo that the BCCI had filled up those vacancies but during the heaviest part of the season it didn’t find the right permutations and combinations. “Once we drew out the fixtures, we asked the umpires and match officials for their availability,” Karim said. “It just so happened that the officials we have available don’t fulfil the neutrality qualification or they are not the right grade. We have sufficient umpires and match officials to conduct the whole season now after these adjustments.”The third round and the knockouts of the Cooch Behar Trophy and the Under-19 four-day competition have been pushed back by almost a month each. The knockouts of the senior women’s one-day tournament have been postponed by two days.”In view of the unavailability of umpires during the month of December 2018, matches have been rescheduled as per the schedule below.” Karim wrote in a letter to all the state units, the office bearers, the CoA, the CEO and the CFO of the BCCI. “You are requested to make logistic arrangements accordingly.”

Leeds could fix possible Summerville blow by unleashing 5ft 7 teen

In any other Championship season, Leeds United would currently find themselves in the automatic promotion spots.

Unfortunately for Daniel Farke's men, Ipswich Town and Leicester City are light years ahead of the promotion pack early into this campaign – both teams in question only losing one match so far, with the Foxes picking up a staggering 13 wins from their first 14 to mount an instant return straight back to the Premier League.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke.

The incredible achievements of their second-tier rivals shouldn't detract from the fact Leeds have bounced back from their early campaign woes tremendously, not registering a win in the Championship until the fourth match of the season with grumbling voices at Elland Road growing in volume.

Now, Leeds find themselves in third spot after that momentary early season blip with their eyes firmly back on the ultimate prize of promotion come May.

Crysencio Summerville has stepped up to the mark as a key performer for Farke's side in this turnaround, but he could be missing for Leeds' trip to the Foxes.

Replaced by Wilfried Gnonto last time out versus Huddersfield – coming off with a suspected knock – it could be touch-and-go whether or not the Dutch superstar features in a tantalising top-of-the-table battle against Leicester City.

Summerville's numbers this season

Summerville has been instrumental in Leeds rising to third spot in the Championship standings, scoring six times this season from 11 appearances with the 22-year-old also adding four assists to his individual tally.

His electric form has even seen him pick up a flawless 10/10 Sofascore rating from Leeds' West Yorkshire derby versus Huddersfield, Summerville unstoppable all match as the Whites ran riot in a 4-1 drubbing.

summerville-leeds-premier-league

Accurate with all of his crosses in that contest – including his passing accuracy coming in at a high of 87% – Summerville could not be contained by Darren Moore's side no matter the Terriers' attempts to stifle him.

Farke spoke about the Dutchman making improvements to his game to Sky Sports after the 4-1 victory, overjoyed that his number ten is beginning to add more goals and assists to his arsenal.

The popular German head coach said: "I think he was already playing on a top level but it is necessary for a young player to develop so that he is getting goals and assists."

He could be a big loss therefore if he is ruled out for the away game at the King Power Stadium, but Gnonto will be waiting in the wings to seize his opportunity after nearly departing Elland Road this summer if Summerville is absent.

Gnonto's numbers this season

Once a beloved figure, Gnonto has some making up to do when it comes to his relationship with the Leeds fanbase – the Italian attacker handing in a transfer request at the start of the campaign to pressure his employers to sell him to Everton.

It backfired on the 5 foot 7 attacker immensely, with his spot in the starting eleven insecure ever since.

Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto.

Playing only two full games for the Whites so far this season in the second tier, the 19-year-old could be unleashed from the start versus Leicester

Scoring only once for Farke's men in the Championship – helping himself to a goal in an action-packed 4-3 victory at Ipswich Town two months ago, in late August – the teenager's rapid pace and tricky feet could catch Leicester off-guard who could be potentially complacent at home versus Leeds.

Gnonto will likely be raring to go if he is selected ahead of Summerville, keen to shrug off any prior unhappiness and perform again for the Whites to the best of his abilities.

£16m Wolves flop sold by Lage is outscoring Kalajdzic this season

Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed some gems under the Fosun Group, acquiring the likes of Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves for relatively small fees and selling them on for massive profits.

However, the Midlands club have also had their fair share of disastrous purchases, players who were signed for lots of money with an abundance of potential that couldn't hack life in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, one player in particular, who falls into this category and was brought to Molineux as a prodigy four years ago, has had a tremendous campaign and is even outscoring Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic.

Patrick Cutrone at Wolverhampton Wanderers

Patrick Cutrone had broken into AC Milan's first team as a mere 18-year-old back in 2017 and went on to make 90 appearances for the Rossoneri across two and a half seasons, scoring 27 goals. Former Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso even compared the centre-forward's style of play to that of club legend Filippo Inzaghi.

After failing to receive much game-time under Gattuso's successor, Marco Giampaolo, the young striker made the leap over to England as Wolves agreed an initial £16m deal for his services with £4m added on.

Unfortunately. the Italy international's time at Molineux didn't go as well as he'd have hoped. Over two seasons, Cutrone scored three goals in 28 appearances, including just two in the league.

Former Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone.

After numerous loan spells, the Milan academy product permanently left Wolves in the summer of 2022, having been sold by former head coach Bruno Lage despite never playing a single game under the Portuguese. Cutrone blamed the ex-Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo as one of the reasons behind his struggles in England, claiming that the manager was "fixated" on playing his favourites.

Nevertheless, Cutrone moved to Serie B side Como eighteen months ago on a three-year deal for what has been described as a "nominal fee".

Patrick Cutrone's stats this season

Upon returning to his hometown of Como, Cutrone rekindled some of his goalscoring form of old, finding the net nine times in 35 games for the Italian minnows, while playing alongside former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas, although this was still an average of just 0.27 goals per game.

However, Cutrone has been far more prolific this term, banging in five goals already in 12 Serie B appearances, bringing his ratio for goals up to 0.42 per game.

Furthermore, the 26-year-old is now being coached by Fabregas, who took over as Como's head coach prior to the November international break.

Having found his shooting boots again, Cutrone looks to be getting back to his best and is even outperforming and outscoring Wolves' £15.4m signing Sasa Kalajdzic this season, who was Cutrone's replacement in the squad.

Cutrone will undoubtedly be disappointed with his time in Wolverhampton, having joined four years ago with such promise. However, his form over the past few months could hint that the Italian just needed a longer run in the team to realise his true potential under a manager who would have given him more opportunities than Nuno did during his time in the Molineux dugout.

PCB rethinking Mohsin Khan's appointment to cricket committee

ESPNcricinfo understands the board is displeased with his recent slew of public comments and has reportedly placed a gag order on him

ESPNcricinfo staff08-Nov-2018It’s only been two weeks since a four-member cricket committee came into being to oversee Pakistan’s cricket affairs, and though they may not have begun their work properly just yet, they’ve been in the news every single day. That is almost entirely down to Mohsin Khan, the head of committee, who’s made a number of public statements that have put the PCB in an awkward position and have raised tensions with other stakeholders. This, ESPNcricinfo understands, has compelled the PCB to start rethinking its decision to appoint him, and it has reportedly placed a gag order on his public comments. The PCB has refused to confirm or deny whether it has asked him to stop talking so publicly.”My statements are wrongly being taken and few people who are against my appointment are doing propaganda,” Mohsin told ESPNcricinfo. “I am here to serve my country and I have had never a discipline issue ever in my entire career. I don’t want to go into details and want to ignore all the negative stuff. I am directly reportable to chairman and he is perfectly fine with me.”Mohsin has riled up coach Mickey Arthur as well as captain Sarfraz Ahmed in his short tenure so far. In comments made just before his appointment, Mohsin called Arthur a “stupid donkey” on a TV channel. Soon after he argued that Sarfraz should be relieved of the Test captaincy. All that came after his very appointment had forced the PCB into an apparent disowning of the Qayyum Report on match-fixing – something it was then keen to insist was not the case. Arthur is understood to want an apology from Mohsin – the pair, according to the terms of the committee, officially meet three times a year – though the PCB chairman Ehsan Mani has said only that all parties should move on from the matter.Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq is also thought to be annoyed by Mohsin’s public comments on selection matters. He has reached out and sought clarity from the board about the committee’s role and suggested that he will not be happy with any intervention in selection affairs. ESPNcricinfo understands that Mohsin’s role and behaviour has been discussed among senior board officials, discussions that have also brought up names of who could replace him should he continue as he has done. All of Mohsin’s comments have been made to TV channels, a few of them to to whom he is contracted as an expert for this home season. It is not clear what officials think of his TV commitments though, as his PCB role is honorary, it is unlikely they can get him to stop them.

ECB announce domestic season rejig for 2020 onwards

The ECB’s new city-based competition will take place at the same time as county cricket’s existing 50-over tournament, after a review of the domestic schedule from 2020 onwards was ratified by the 18 first-class counties. In addition, three counties will be promoted to Division One of the County Championship in 2019, with one relegated, ahead of a new-look first-class structure which will feature ten teams in the top flight, eight in Division Two, and a new “seeding system” to enable a limit of 14 matches per season. The Men’s Domestic Playing Programme group (MDPP), chaired by Leicestershire chief executive Wasim Khan, also confirmed that the Vitality T20 Blast would retain its current format of two groups of nine teams, split by North and South counties, ahead of quarter-finals and a Finals Day at Edgbaston.Furthermore, a new round of 50-over fixtures will be played before the domestic One-Day competition in mid-July, with each first-class county visiting a Minor County. However, the ECB’s plans for its new competition (which, intriguingly is not referred to by its previous working title, “The Hundred”) and the Championship, that are of greatest significance, with the confirmation that it would be the 50-over tournament that will be shifted to July and August to provide the counties with action and income while the new competition is taking place. The counties will be split into two groups of nine for the 50-over tournament – not necessarily along existing North and South lines – and will play each of the other eight counties in their group [four at home and four away] before the top three qualify for the knockout stages.Overseas players will not be permitted to take part in the county 50-over competition, presumably in a bid to prevent any competing interests for the top talents whom the ECB hope to attract to their city-based event. However, this downgrading of 50-over cricket will come in the aftermath of next summer’s 50-over World Cup, for which England, the hosts, are currently favourites to lift the trophy for the first time in their history. The County Championship will also undergo a significant rejig at the end of the 2019 season, with the current balance of eight top-flight teams and ten bottom-flight teams set to be swapped in a bid to provide, from 2020 onwards, greater security against relegation, and greater opportunity for promotion. However, all county teams will continue to play 14 matches per season, which means that for the First Division, the counties will be unable to play all of their opponents at home and away in any given year.”Due to the asymmetrical nature of 14 matches in a 10-team division a seeding system is being explored to optimise fairness, firstly in Division Two in 2019 followed by Division One from 2020 onwards,” said the ECB in a statement.Khan, the MDPP chairman, said: “It was critical throughout the process to consider a programme that was underpinned by three key principles: supporting sustained success for England teams, maintaining a vibrant domestic game and recognising the importance of red ball cricket.”There were a number of areas up for discussion which showed the importance of extensively consulting with all 18 First-Class-Counties in a thorough and impartial process. We are very pleased that that there was unanimous support for a structure that will hopefully improve our domestic game and in turn the England teams.”Gordon Hollins, ECB Chief Operating Officer, added: “It was important that the process took in the views of all the stakeholders in the domestic game, especially the counties. After receiving unanimous agreement we will move forward with plans that will help ensure that our domestic game remains as vibrant as possible while producing players to help our England teams remain successful.”

Moyes could now unleash exciting teenager who West Ham chiefs "really rate"

West Ham United have an exciting teenager who club insiders "really rate", and manager David Moyes could begin to unleash him over the next few weeks.

Burnley 1-2 West Ham

The Irons have now won four out of their last five matches in all competitions, easing the pressure on Moyes and putting them in good shape for contests against Backa Topola and Crystal Palace.

Their latest win, a 2-1 victory away to Burnley at Turf Moor, is particularly important given West Ham recently lost both Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen to injury.

Michail Antonio.

Moyes was forced to start Danny Ings – a player he's hardly selected this season – up front as the east Londoners' shortage of striker options was laid bare. The Englishman was taken off and replaced by promising youngster Divin Mubama, who is at the centre of rumours linking him with being offered a new West Ham deal.

Mubama played a very big role in clinching West Ham the three points, forcing defender Dara O'Shea into an own goal before Tomas Soucek's added time volley put Moyes' side 2-1 ahead.

The teenager could be West Ham's next big talent, and it will be interesting to see how Mubama fairs in Moyes' plans before the manager potentially leaves this summer.

West Ham insiders "really rate" Mubama

According to journalist Paul Brown, speaking to GiveMeSport, West Ham insiders "really rate" Mubama as a player and they're excited by his potential in claret and blue.

Moyes could use the 19-year-old "sparingly" over the next few weeks as well, as the Scotsman weighs up whether Mubama can stay consistent and play at a high level.

"Knowing Moyes like I do, and how much of a captain cautious manager he is, I would be surprised if he gives me Mubama a run of starts now," said Brown.

Divin Mubama for West Ham United.

"There's an argument for doing so and I know that people inside the club really rate this kid very highly. He looks like he's got something about him. There's clearly some talent there and they hope he'll progress into a really good player, but it would be out of character for Moyes to expect so much so quickly from someone who's just coming into the team.

"So I suspect that he will be used a bit more sparingly off the bench over the next few weeks to see if he really does have it and whether he can stay consistent."

Moyes, speaking to the press recently, heaped praise on the Englishman for working very hard behind-the-scenes.

“We want to play Divin but he has quite a lot of competition,” said Moyes (via The Athletic). “I don’t know how many 19-year-old centre-forwards are playing in the Premier League. It’s something which is getting harder because it’s such a difficult role. The level of competition to be a centre-forward is really high at most clubs.

“But Divin is different from the rest. He has a mentality and an attitude that is as good as any top player."
