Panini Tabloid Sticker Pack – World of Lewis discusses Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as Manchester United manager in late December.

The former United attacker got off to a flying start, winning his first six games in charge and collecting January’s Manager of the Month award.

The Norwegian also masterminded a Champions League win over PSG, but once he was named permanent manager in March results declined and United finished sixth, losing their final home game 2-0 to already relegated Cardiff City.

The World of Lewis, who can be seen in the video above filling out his Panini Tabloid, was “Very happy with the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”

The Premier League Panini Tabloid is a special commemorative newspaper sticker collection celebrating the exciting new partnership between the greatest league in the world and the legendary name in football publishing, Panini. Premier League Transfer Roundup: Diaz offered to Arsenal, Thauvin news, Trio after Diagne

[ad_pod ]

Tuesday’s Premier League transfer roundup was made up of Manchester United and Arsenal’s interest in Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, Liverpool’s pursuit of Marco Asensio and Everton’s chase of Barcelona’s Malcom. Today’s edition focuses on the Gunners being offered a Real Madrid star, West Ham’s chance to sign a Ligue 1 ace and a trio of sides in contact with a Senegalese striker.

Mariano offered to Gunners

Arsenal’s relatively small budget has been a big talking point during this summer’s transfer window, and it remains to be seen exactly what Unai Emery can do with it. If the Spaniard is after a striker, though, he may have just been gifted the perfect opportunity to sign one. According to The Daily Mirror, Real Madrid have offered Mariano Diaz to the Emirates outfit, and for a cut-price fee of £18m. The former Lyon man is apparently surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu after the 25-year-old scored just 4 goals in 19 appearances for Los Merengues last season.

West Ham given chance to sign Thauvin

West Ham will start next term without their top goalscorer from the previous campaign following Marko Arnautovic’s departure. With only one other player scoring 10 or more goals last time out, some striking power wouldn’t go amiss. They may just have found that, according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Blog (10/07, 09.45). They are reporting that the Hammers have been offered the possibility to take Marseille’s Florian Thauvin to the London Stadium. A £36m fee, plus Javier Hernandez going the other way, has been discussed. The 26-year-old Frenchman has scored at least 15 goals in each of the past three Ligue 1 campaigns, including 16 strikes last year.

Brighton, Crystal Palace and Southampton after Diagne

Each summer, Premier League clubs are on the lookout to sign the right additions to their squad. According to Turkish outlet Aksam, a trio of top-tier clubs have taken their search to the Super Lig. Brighton, Crystal Palace and Southampton have all been credited with an interested in Senegal and Galatasaray forward Mbaye Diagne. All three have apparently been in contact with the 27-year-old’s manager. The former Chinese Super League attacker has a brilliant strike rate in Turkish football, having scored 42 goals in 46 games in the country’s top division since joining Kasimpasa in 2017.

Leeds fans worried after misleading Phil Hay tweet

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter were momentarily worried after Phil Hay posted a misleading tweet about Kalvin Phillips.

A fan asked whether or not the midfielder would be travelling to Australia for the club’s pre-season tour to which the journalist simply replied: “Phillips is due to go.”

Without context, it looked as if Hay was confirming the midfielder was on his way out of Elland Road as fans have been worried about his potential departure for weeks.

On Friday, Tottenham were linked with a move for the Leeds man.

The youngster has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs during this transfer window as Aston Villa, Wolves and Norwich have all shown an interest in him.

The former Yorkshire Evening Post writer’s tweet was in fact a positive update on Phillips, but that didn’t stop some fans worrying.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane swarmed on Instagram after scoring wonder goal

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur have started their pre-season in some style.

What better way to continue your tour than by beating Juventus in a seriously tight game via an outrageous winner in stoppage time?

It’s difficult to think of many better scenarios.

And what makes that incredible achievement even better is that Harry Kane manged to lob a former Gunner, Wojciech Szczęsny, who was left embarrassed when the Tottenham star managed to beat him with a strike hit from just in front of the halfway line.

It was an open game with an abundance of chances and goals but that strike topped it off in dramatic style.

Naturally, Kane took to

/B0LnXnJBzf0/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to celebrate the win and that match-winning goal, and other stars were quick to swarm his profile with praise and great messages of support.

Legends of the game, as well as the current stars, replied to Kane and gave him all sorts of praise for the strike.

From “ridiculous” to “nasty”, many of football’s biggest names just couldn’t get enough of the wonder goal.

Even Mauricio Pochettino said it was undeniably an unbelievable goal and worth every bit of praise it has induced.

And other stars would most certainly agree with that sentiment.

Tottenham chairman Levy closing in on major transfer window win

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is closing in on one of his shrewdest victories of the transfer window.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon is on the verge of finally moving to Spurs after the two clubs made a breakthrough in talks.

That breakthrough concerns the Cottagers’ interest in Josh Onomah and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

The report claims that the money banked from the sale of Sessegnon could then be reinvested into deals for the two Spurs outcasts, who have played next to no part in the fortunes of the club.

Indeed, Onomah last played for the club in 2017, while Nkoudou’s last outing, ironically, came in a 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage last season; he provided the cross for Harry Winks to score an injury-time winner.

They have made a combined two starts in the Premier League and yet they could be the reason that Spurs make a wedge of money back after buying the 19-year-old.

This feels like classic Daniel Levy – although The Telegraph reports that it’s not clear whether there will be a direct exchange or simply if Fulham will look to sign both players in separate deals.

The Spurs chairman has always driven a hard bargain – Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former Manchester United manager, said that a deal to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Spurs was “more painful than my hip replacement” in his book.

Yet this really takes the cake.

Both Onomah and Nkoudou are seemingly unwanted at Spurs, as neither player was included in the club’s squad for their pre-season tour of Singapore.

Yet they could end up playing a key role in a deal that Spurs have been chasing for years.

Indeed, the London Evening Standard reports that the club have been tracking Sessegnon since 2016 and hope to finally get a deal over the line in this transfer window.

That could all rest on two players who have a pair of starts between them.

Fulham have been hoodwinked and one feels that, regardless of other incomings in this transfer window, Levy will have pulled off one of his finest pieces of business if this deal goes through.

He will have secured a long-coveted talent and also rid the club of two players who can fairly be regarded as deadwood.

Manchester United’s Luke Shaw takes to Instagram to share brilliant painting

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United’s 2019 summer pre-season tour is slowly reaching its conclusion.

The latest clash saw them battle it out and win against well-known Premier League rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. But now, the travelling Red Devils are setting off for Norway, where they will face Kristiansund in Oslo.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already named his squad for their penultimate match before the return of the 2019/20 Premier League season in early August.

And the players seem to be in really good spirits if their social media activity is anything to go by.

Luke Shaw, Manchester’s young defender, has taken to

/B0eT3FgnUWZ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to share a truly brilliant piece of art that was painted for him recently.

He stated that he loved the painting and followed it up with a fire emoji, tagging the artists along the way.

Shaw had a pretty decent 2018/19 season with United.

He played a total of 40 games in all competitions, scoring once and tallying five assists in the process.

The 24-year-old left-back also suffered a slight injury in September last year but it only kept him sidelined for two games in total.

Arsenal fans react as Eddie Nketiah linked with loan move

[ad_pod ]

Despite emerging as one of the real shining lights of Arsenal’s pre-season this summer, it appears Eddie Nketiah could be spending the upcoming season away from the Emirates.

The highly-rated 20-year-old burst onto the scene in north London with a dramatic brace against Norwich in the League Cup, but has found first-team opportunities rather hard to come by.

Now, BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein has tweeted that Bristol City, amongst a host of other domestic and foreign clubs, are in talks to sign the striker this summer on a potential season-long loan deal. Leeds also want the forward, per BBC.

After hearing the news Nketiah could be set for a spell away, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the update.

[ad_pod ]

Some Gunners supporters thought a season of regular minutes in senior football would do the young prospect the world of good, and backed him to enjoy a similarly impressive campaign as when Jack Wilshere moved to Bolton back in 2010.

Others however raised concerns over how Unai Emery’s side would potentially be left without a back-up striker if Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe all start together.

Check out some of the divided reaction of Arsenal fans below:

Celtic don’t need another striker, despite Neil Lennon’s wish for one

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Neil Lennon has told The Daily Record of his desire to sign up to five new players before the window shuts, with one of those targets being a centre-forward.

What’s he said?

Having sold Kieran Tierney to Arsenal for a club-record £25m, Lennon has already earmarked that money for five new signings. The Celts boss stated his desire to bring in three new defenders, two wingers and a striker as he looks to reshape his squad.

The Parkhead club have already brought to Christopher Jullien, Luca Connell, Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo and Hatem Abd Elhamed to Glasgow this summer, but Lennon wants to keep building.

While the chase to sign more defenders has been well-documented, the manager’s hope of bringing in another forward before the close of play on September 2 is surprising.

Should a striker be a priority?

Lennon has dabbled with two upfront during the very early stages of the season, deploying a 3-5-2, so that could be why he wants another striker in.

With Vakoun Bayo and Leigh Griffiths only recently returning to the first-team, it would make sense to pursue another forward, but only if 3-5-2 was to be the permanent formation.

However, this change of shape was more to do with not having a trusted right-back than anything else.

With Bayo and Griffiths now back in action, Lennon has two back-ups for Odsonne Edouard, who proved last season he can lead the line with little support from the bench as Bayo spent the majority of the time injured and Griffiths took a break to deal with his mental health.

A new striker could be a waste of time if Lennon, as expected, reverts to his tried and tested 4-2-3-1 system.

Griffiths has shown glimpses already this season that he is back to his former self, and a support role while he gets back up to speed could work wonders for his form and confidence.

With three strikers already at the club and the alteration to 3-5-2 unlikely to be permanent, signing a fourth forward makes little sense for Lennon as he looks to reinvest the Tierney millions.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba had an impressive showing against Wolves despite penalty miss

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Amidst all the transfer talk surrounding the World Cup winner’s future at Manchester United, Paul Pogba delivered a statement-making performance against Chelsea in the first game of the Premier League season.

The 26-year-old picked up two assists, and was at his powerful best in the middle of the park against Frank Lampard’s side. For someone whose name has been in the headlines about a potential exit from Old Trafford, Pogba certainly silenced some of the doubters.

Against Wolves, all the post-match talk and anger has understandably centred around the Frenchman’s involvement in United’s penalty fiasco. Footage appeared to show him and Marcus Rashford in discussion over who would step up and take the spot-kick, and in the end, Pogba’s decision to do so ultimately cost the Red Devils, and those who backed United in live sports betting, a hard-fought win.

But, looking beyond that debacle, the former Juventus man was arguably one of United’s more impressive performers on the night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team selection for the clash was certainly brave and adventurous. Going away from home to a side that inflicted two defeats on them last season, he set up with just two natural midfielders and four attack-minded players.

It meant Pogba and Scott McTominay had the unenviable task of having to stifle Wolves’ midfield three of Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves and Leander Dendoncker. But in a particularly dominant first-half performance, United’s duo successfully forced the opposition back and looked generally comfortable with proceedings.

Indeed, Pogba set the tempo for his side with a game-high 95 passes, and registered an impressive 84.2% pass accuracy. What was even more impressive was the 6 foot 3 star’s willingness to get United moving forward, and his 12 accurate long balls were thanks to his intuition in knowing Wolves were at their most vulnerable in transition.

One sublime pass in particular saw Pogba’s diagonal set Rashford away on the break, and almost led to a goal for Anthony Martial.

The indoor football skills in the video below have to be seen to be believed…

The narrative will no doubt centre around how the midfield star may have broken team protocol, or showed a lack of respect to his teammates and the club by taking the penalty. But from an objective point of view, taking the anger away, the Frenchman produced a fine performance in a testing game.

Manchester City fans react as Mario Balotelli set to return to the Etihad

[ad_pod ]

Why always me?

Ah yes, Mario Balotelli. From setting off fireworks in his house to pitch-based mischief, the “bib” saga, throwing darts at youth players (yes, that actually happened), training ground bust-ups, and numerous automobile infractions, the Italian was never too far away from controversy.

But that’s why he was so likeable. Indeed, as my old teachers used to say at parents’ evening, whilst they desperately struggled to find something remotely positive to tell about my academic performance, “he’s a character.”

The former Manchester City maverick is set to make his return to the Etihad to play one last game in blue to play in Vincent Kompany’s upcoming testimonial.

Balotelli qualified as a City ‘Legend’ and will appear in September at the very place he had a hand in creating perhaps the most iconic goal in Premier League history (you know the one).

Fans have swarmed City’s announcement post with their reactions…

Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, Pablo Zabaleta, Wayne Bridge, Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong, Samir Nasri, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland and Craig Bellamy have also been confirmed.
