Derbyshire’s groundstaff were cleared of any blame after the third day of the LV= County Championship Division Two match against Gloucestershire was abandoned without a ball bowled. High winds on Monday night had torn a section of the covers, allowing water to saturate a small area where the bowler’s feet land and make it too dangerous for the game to resume.Umpires Tim Robinson and Steve Garrett hoped the area would dry out in the sun and wind but after a fourth inspection at 3.15pm, they decided it was still unfit for play. Both Derbyshire and Gloucestershire backed the decision to call the game off for the day and the teams will now hope for decent weather on Wednesday to try to force a result.”There was a severe weather warning issued for overnight on Monday and when we got to the ground this morning, it wasn’t fit for play,” Derbyshire’s elite performance director Graeme Welch said. “We had a similar problem at Cardiff earlier in the season and that was on a smaller area. This one is where the bowler’s feet are landing and, put it this way, if my bowlers had been due to run in I wouldn’t have wanted them to bowl on that, it’s quite dangerous.”Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson agreed with Welch’s assessment, adding: “It’s one of those situations where it’s no-one’s fault, there was howling wind and rain and you can’t do anything about it. The covers had got blown about with the power of the wind and the footholds were just mud. There was nothing the groundstaff could have done, they tried their best today so hats off to them but that’s the English weather. Who would have thought it was June!”Gloucestershire were in a good position to put Derbyshire under pressure and Dawson added: “It’s frustrating because I think we’ve bowled well and it would have been interesting if we could have got a full day in but we will have a crack and see if we can get a victory tomorrow.”

Australia’s coach Darren Lehmann has insisted that Shane Watson’s Test career is not over despite being replaced by Mitchell Marsh for the critical Lord’s Test.Lehmann stated that Watson had only narrowly won selection for the first Test at Cardiff, and after a poor match in which he was twice out cheaply lbw and was unable to take a wicket, the selectors decided the younger Marsh deserved a chance having made two centuries in the warm-up matches.”Obviously Shane has been a little bit disappointing with his runs and it’s a tight call,” Lehmann said before play on day one. “He’s been an experienced player for us. Mitch Marsh has done everything we could ask for behind scenes and first two tour games he’s in good form.”Tight call first Test, we went with experience, this Test we’ve gone with Mitch Marsh. Tough call on Shane but I’m sure he’s got plenty of cricket left in him.”Many have concluded this decision marks the end of Watson’s time in the Test side, but Lehmann said the allrounder could still win his way back into the XI on this tour if he presses a hard enough case in the remaining tour matches. Alberto Valentim apostou na manutenção da equipe que venceu o CSA por 2 a 1, com Carli entrando no lugar de Marcelo Benevenuto por razões de lesão. Em campo, o Botafogo teve 15 minutos iniciais de pane. O primeiro terço de jogo foi marcado por um tom e ele foi tricolor. O Grêmio ditou o ritmo da partida: pressionava a saída de bola do Alvinegro, que não saiu do próprio campo e mal trocava três passes seguidos em direção da segunda metade do gramado.

Não à toa, o Grêmio abriu o placar cedo, justamente no melhor momento do time de Renato Gaúcho na partida. Luciano encontrou Maicon, que aproveitou uma falha de posicionamento de Joel Carli, para estufar as redes de Gatito. O placar, de fato, traduzia a superioridade gremista no preocupante começo do jogo do Botafogo.

EVOLUÇÃO AOS POUCOS

O Botafogo, dentro de suas limitações, cresceu na metade do primeiro tempo. Com a vantagem no placar e o natural cansaço físico, o Grêmio abriu mão de parte da intensidade na marcação e o Alvinegro, naturalmente, teve mais espaços e oportunidades para jogar.

A equipe de Alberto Valentim teve chances de empatar, mas parou em Paulo Victor que fez, pelo menos, duas importantes intervenções – uma em chute de Diego Souza e a outra em cabeçada de Gabriel – para evitar o gol do Alvinegro. O Glorioso terminou a primeira etapa jogando bem e com a esperança de que era possível bater de frente, muito por conta de um ataque mais fluido e do aproveitamento nas jogadas de bolas paradas.

VOLTE DUAS CASAS…

Se o primeiro tempo terminou com uma pequena luz de que havia chance de ir atrás do empate, o começo da etapa complementar apagou completamente tal possibilidade. Assim como nos primeiros instantes dos 45 minutos iniciais, o Grêmio voltou com uma intensidade em outro nível e a partida era desnivelada neste sentido.

O Botafogo assistia ao Grêmio jogar. Sem respostas à marcação alta da equipe de Renato Gaúcho, a solução de Alberto Valentim era se livrar da bola por meio de chutões. O Tricolor logo recuperava a posse e chegava ao campo de ataque com poucos toques. A partida, em certo momento, entrou em uma sequência de repetição destes fatores.

FECHOU O CAIXÃO

Com a facilidade para chegar ao campo ofensivo, não demorou para o Grêmio achar novos gols. O Tricolor apostava em jogadas rápidas de superioridade numérica, geradas principalmente após roubadas de bola no meio-campo, e o Botafogo limitou-se a defender. Em dois destes lances, não conseguiu.

Tanto Thaciano quanto Everton, autores dos gols do Grêmio no segundo tempo, tiveram apenas o trabalho de empurrar a bola para o fundo das redes. As construções das jogadas, porém, foram parecidas: tramas em velocidade, aproveitando a defesa bagunçada do Alvinegro, em passes rápidos. No fim, o 3 a 0 traduziu a superioridade dos mandantes.

ATUAÇÃO PARA ESQUECER

Depois de duas partidas mostrando certa evolução – mesmo que ainda em pouca intensidade -, o Botafogo estagnou. No primeiro tempo, principalmente, a equipe teve oportunidades de contra-ataques, mas a escolha de passes foi errada. Quando era para acelerar e buscar uma jogada mais esticada, os atletas voltavam a posse para os zagueiros. Era um prato cheio para a defesa do Grêmio se recompor e oferecer dificuldade para o Glorioso voltar ao ataque.

O balanço de Porto Alegre é negativo. O Botafogo foi dominado e a distância para a zona de rebaixamento – que era de cinco pontos antes de a 28ª rodada começar – diminuiu um ponto. A partida contra o Cruzeiro, primeiro time no Z4, na próxima quinta-feira, no Estádio Nilton Santos, portanto, será um duelo direto contra a degola e o futuro do Alvinegro no Campeonato Brasileiro.

– O Luiz estava com algumas dores na coxa. A gente até pensou em trazê-lo, mas achamos arriscado. O departamento médico achou arriscado para não haver uma lesão – explicou Alberto Valentim, após a partida.

O atacante havia participado de 27 jogos seguidos pelo Botafogo, contando compromissos por Campeonato Brasileiro e Copa Sul-Americana. Antes dessa partida contra o Santos, o último duelo que Luiz Fernando havia perdido foi contra o Fluminense, 11 de maio, no Maracanã.

No Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Fernando realizou uma endoscopia na coxa direita junto ao departamento médico do clube. O exame trata de obter imagens médicas do paciente em determinada parte do corpo. O quadro do atacante, porém, não preocupa o Botafogo para a sequência do Campeonato Brasileiro.

Os jogadores do Botafogo estão cada vez mais unidos. Diante de dificuldades dentro e fora de campo – com a aproximação da zona de rebaixamento e um mês de salários atrasados -, o elenco do Alvinegro se uniu e, com a ajuda de pessoas envolvidas no dia a dia do Estádio Nilton Santos, busca manter o foco apenas dentro das quatro linhas. O Glorioso enfrenta o Flamengo na próxima quinta-feira, às 20h, pelo Campeonato Brasileiro.

Na manhã da última terça-feira, lideranças do elenco se reuniram com o restante dos jogadores antes do treinamento, sem a presença de ninguém da comissão técnica. Em uma conversa franca, todos concordaram que as práticas de dia a dia teriam que ser mantidas normalmente para que o foco no Glorioso saísse da questão extracampo – tanto para a imprensa quanto para os próprios jogadores.

A conversa foi positiva e todo o elenco concordou em voltar a fazer entrevistas coletivas na sala de imprensa, algo que não acontecia há dois meses justamente por um protesto dos atletas que, por conta dos salários atrasados, não queriam expor os patrocinadores do Botafogo até que a questão financeira fosse resolvida.

Sobre os salários, o elenco completa dois meses e meio de salários vencidos na próxima quinta-feira, quando a folha de outubro entra em débito. A diretoria, com todas as mudanças internas, já correu atrás de novas fontes de renda e finalmente conversou com o elenco sobre o dinheiro que está para ser recebido, algo que era pedido pelos atletas.

A diretoria não faz promessas, mas a intenção é pagar, pelo menos, uma folha salarial até a partida contra o Flamengo. A cúpula alvinegra avisou ao elenco que faz de tudo para quitar este valor até, o máximo, o final da semana. De qualquer maneira, a ação já foi vista como um sinal verde pelos jogadores. O Botafogo ocupa a 14ª colocação no Campeonato Brasileiro, estando a 2 pontos do Fluminense, primeiro time na zona de rebaixamento.

He’s just got to get better at running between the wickets, all the little things we didn’t do well enough.”He played beautifully, but it depends. Massive hailstorms and treacherous icy roads prevented the team leaving their high-altitude hotel as scheduled, with roads blocked and their morning chartered flight unable to land at Dharamsala airport.While they were eventually able to reschedule travel arrangements and arrived in Bangalore in the evening, it was hardly helpful with such a tight turnaround and Australia can ill-afford any further slips in this tournament.”Every game is a must-win when it is such a short tournament and you have to win three out of four,” Lehmann said. “You want to win the first game and get the tournament off on the right note. But at the end of the day we have still got to beat Bangladesh, we have still got to beat Pakistan we’ve still got to beat India, so you’ve got to win enough games and if you do that you qualify.”That is the great nature of the tournament. It is so quick you haven’t got too much time to think about it.”

Sunil Narine will rejoin Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday evening after a brief visit back home to Trinidad and Tobago following the death of his father. Narine will be available for selection for Knight Riders’ second fixture on Wednesday, against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens.Narine, who opted out of the 2016 World Twenty20 to work on his remodelled action, underwent testing at the ICC-accredited centre in Chennai before joining his IPL team-mates in Kolkata, but had to rush back home on April 3. His action was deemed legal by the ICC on April 7, two days before the start of this year’s IPL.Brad Hogg, Knight Riders’ other lead spinner, who addressed the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, insisted a change in action has had little impact on Narine’s control and mastery. “It is good having Sunil V 2.0,” Hogg said. “It is just a confidence thing with Sunil. I remember taking some balls from him.”I struggled to pick it from the hand. Questionado se havia algum tipo de revanche ou se estava engasgado com o Flamengo por conta do torneio continental, Renato não fugiu da resposta e colocou pano quente para o confronto.

— Não. Nós estamos entalados com o nosso desempenho. O Flamengo fez a parte dele. O Flamengo jogou futebol como fez isso muito bem nos últimos cinco meses. Nos atropelou porque demos oportunidade. Não está entalado não. Nós é que infelizmente não estivemos numa noite que a gente costuma estar em uma semifinal de Libertadores. O Flamengo fez o que vinha fazendo, jogou futebol, aproveitou as oportunidades e venceu. Não tem nada de revanche agora pelo Brasileiro. Espero que minha equipe esteja numa noite melhor do que aquela no Maracanã. Uma tarde, melhor dizendo, do Gre-Nal, que jogamos bem. Nada de revanche’ —declarou.

Em relação a Jorge Jesus, Portaluppi foi sincero ao avaliar o comandante português e elogiou o trabalho do comandante adversário e fez menção a Jorge Sampaoli, que também se destaca no Santos.

— Os dois estrangeiros são competentes. Até o ano passado tivemos outros estrangeiros aqui no Brasil que não estiveram tão bem. Não significa que não sejam bons. Às vezes não têm sucesso no trabalho não porque são ruins. Tem espaço para todo mundo. Cada um mostra seu trabalho. Jesus vem fazendo um belíssimo trabalho, Sampaoli no Santos. Tem que dar os parabéns. Como outros treinadores brasileiros têm sucesso nos seus clubes. Não vejo lado de ciúmes. Não vejo por isso. Tem espaço para todo mundo. O Botafogo, aos poucos, vai tratando das renovações dos atletas cujo vínculo acabaria no fim da atual temporada. O clube encaminhou a extensão do contrato do atacante Lucas Campos, criado nas categorias de base do Glorioso, até dezembro de 2020.

O atacante foi emprestado a Nova Iguaçu e Atlético Tubarão no primeiro semestre de 2019 e não estava, inicialmente, nos planos da comissão técnica. Com Eduardo Barroca, porém, foi reintegrado ao elenco principal e passou a receber chances, agradando a diretoria. Não à toa, o vínculo está praticamente fechado para o ano que vem.

Lucas Campos tinha um contrato com o Botafogo até dezembro. Por ter feito boas partidas e ter aparecido como uma útil opção útil, terá o vínculo renovado por mais um ano e iniciará a próxima temporada no elenco principal do Alvinegro, que disputará o Campeonato Carioca e as fases iniciais da Copa do Brasil no primeiro semestre.

O vínculo ainda não foi assinado, mas as partes já dão como certa a renovação. Portanto, Lucas Campos ficará no Botafogo em 2020. O atleta atuou em 19 partidas na atual temporada, sem balançar as redes. Com Alberto Valentim, o camisa 21 vem sendo utilizado recorrentemente como opção entre os reservas.

A natural mudança para um modelo gestão baseado em clube-empresa não impediu a renovação de Lucas Campos, visto que o atacante é jovem, perfil que o Botafogo procura pensando já na profissionalização do departamento de futebol da parte social.
