Yet somehow, on the back of scoreboard pressure, and some skilful bowling from Scorchers’ experienced T20 exponents, the home side successfully defended the lowest total in the BBL’s short history.The Scorchers can thank their recruiting team for signing Pakistan bowler, Yasir Arafat. He arrived in Australia just three days ago and bowled his new team to victory on Boxing Day with an extraordinary spell.An unknown commodity to most of the Scorchers fans, Arafat was a mystery to the Renegades batsmen, who knew very little about his cleverly disguised slower ball, and he found some swing from the helpful Fremantle doctor.Aaron Finch was completely fooled by Arafat’s slower ball in the fifth over to halt the Renegades early progression. Alex Doolan, who struck four crisp boundaries in a classy 21, dragged a half-volley from Jason Behrendorff onto his stumps in the next over, and suddenly the Scorchers had a glimmer of hope.Mitchell Marsh then showed his tremendous all-round ability by bagging two wickets in the 10th over. Ben Rohrer parried a leading edge to point and Jos Buttler nicked a wide outswinger to leave the Renegades needing a run-a-ball from the last ten overs to win.But they imploded from there. Tom Cooper, Peter Nevill and William Sheridan all skied catches off slower balls from both Arafat and Alfonso Thomas. Nathan Rimmington was run out in a calamitous mix-up, and the visitors fell six runs shy of their target.Earlier, the Scorchers looked to have butchered the game having started brightly with the bat after winning the toss. Simon Katich and Shaun Marsh took 45 from the first six overs, and looked set to build a commanding total. But the Renegades were allowed to deliver the next 83 balls without conceding a boundary.Katich became Cooper’s first-ever BBL wicket, and just his ninth in T20 cricket, when he nicked an innocuous off-break. Rimmington and Muttiah Muralitharan then bowled eight overs between them, collecting three wickets for just 27 runs.The crowd was pensive when the total limped to 7 for 117 at the change of innings. Incredibly, though, it proved just enough.

Day four brought the best possible outcome for Karnataka, a win with a bonus point, and the news that they had moved to the top of Group A thanks to results elsewhere. But it didn’t come easy.Karnataka’s bowlers almost went wicket-less in the first session, as Gurkeerat Singh and Gitansh Khera counter-punched their way to a sixth-wicket partnership of 186. Both players made their highest scores in first class cricket in averting an innings defeat for Punjab.Chasing 31 to win, Karnataka almost lost their bonus point. In the third over of their innings, Mayank Agarwal’s attempt at hooking Sandeep Sharma resulted in a loud caught-behind appeal. Umpire Suresh Shastri gave it out initially, but after conferring with square leg umpire Milind Pathak, reversed his decision just as Agarwal was about to cross the rope.With that behind them, Karnataka raced home in 4.5 overs, with KL Rahul stroking five crisp fours in a 13-ball 25, including the winning pull off Sandeep.The pitch, as Rahul showed, had eased out completely. It was the ideal platform for Gurkeerat and Khera, whose partnership was 41 overnight, to display the talent that lay hidden beneath their ordinary first-class numbers.Before this match, their combined efforts had produced 323 runs in 15 innings at an average of just under 25, with one half-century between them. In the first innings, Gurkeerat had thrown his wicket away after losing patience with Karnataka’s relentless fifth-stump line. Khera, Punjab’s wicketkeeper, was making a comeback after playing the last of his five first-class matches in November 2011.Punjab began the day needing 175 to make Karnataka bat again. Gurkeerat had been positive on the third evening and continued in that vein, driving whenever the ball was pitched up. Khera was equally aggressive to start with, cracking Vinay Kumar for successive fours square on the off-side to move into the 30s.Vinay and Abhimanyu Mithun gave way after bowling just four and three overs in their first spells of the day. With an eye on the second new ball, Karnataka spread the field and looked to limit the boundaries. The singles flowed easily, especially off KP Appanna’s left-arm spin, and Khera cut him to deep point to walk from 49 to 50.With three overs to go for the new ball, Khera jumped down the pitch and hit Appanna over his head for a one-bounce four. Gurkeerat repeated the stroke from the crease, off the last ball of the over, to bring up both his century and the 150 partnership.Karnataka struck in their fourth over with the second new ball, the last before lunch, Vinay getting Khera lbw with a ball that might have missed leg stump. Khera was shaping for a leg glance, and it seemed as if the fielders had gone up for a caught-behind chance – CM Gautam, diving to his left, dropped the ball and injured his finger – rather than an lbw appeal.Gurkeerat continued to play his shots after lunch. A checked drive for four off Vinay followed by a hurried single to point brought up his 150 and levelled the scores. Soon after that, though, he flicked Stuart Binny uppishly, straight to short midwicket.In the first innings, Punjab lost their last three wickets in the space of 12 balls as their tailenders threw their bats at everything. They were even more cavalier this time, and needed just four balls to go from 361 for seven to 361 all out.

O primeiro é desafio será no sábado, no Rio de Janeiro, diante do Cruzeiro. Será o duelo entre o campeão carioca e o campeão mineiro e envolve dos dois times mais fortes do Brasil. Vice do Brasileirão em 2018, o Flamengo se reforçou com Arrascaeta – destaque da Raposa nos anos anteriores -, Bruno Henrique e Gabigol – ambos do Santos, e o segundo artilheiro do torneio com 18 gols – e, por fim, o zagueiro Rodrigo Caio, que veio do São Paulo após um ano em baixa.

Bicampeão da Copa do Brasil, a Raposa, que eliminou o Flamengo nas oitavas da Liberta de 2018, vendeu o uruguaio, mas qualificou o elenco com Pedro Rocha, Rodriguinho e Marquinhos Gabriel, por exemplo. A melhor campanha na fase de grupos da atual edição da Copa, com 100% de aproveitamento nas cinco rodadas disputadas, e o título estadual confirmam a força do Cruzeiro.

Depois, o Rubro-Negro vai a Porto Alegre enfrentar o Internacional. O time de Odair Hellmann perdeu a final do Gauchão para o Grêmio, mas também faz grande campanha na fase de grupos da Liberta: quatro vitórias e um empate.

Por fim, o Flamengo visita o São Paulo no Morumbi, fechando a difícil série inicial no Campeonato Brasileiro. Desde a queda precoce na Libertadores, muitas mudanças no Morumbi. Jogadores saíram, reforços chegaram e o técnico Cuca assumiu a equipe, que chegou à final e foi vice-campeã paulista.

DIEGO ALVES SENTE FISGADA; TIME SERÁ REAVALIADO

Na derrota para a LDU, o goleiro Diego Alves foi substituído com dores nas costas na etapa final. Desta forma o camisa 1 será reavaliado e pode virar desfalque para Abel Braga nos próximos compromissos. A delegação do Flamengo desembarca no Rio de Janeiro ainda na manhã desta quinta-feira.

Na saída do estádio, o goleiro explicou que sentiu uma fisgada na etapa final.

Para a partida de sábado, contra o Cruzeiro, os jogadores que atuaram em Quito também serão reavaliados pelo departamento médico. A comissão técnica levará em conta os resultados dos exames para definir a escalação, como já vem acontecendo sob o comando de Abel Braga durante todo o ano.

Both times, they have put big runs on the board after losing the toss. Both times, they haven’t allowed India to blaze away early. And both times, they have absorbed pressure while defending to break threatening partnerships and close out the game. The fielding, as always, has been an asset.Barring the few dropped chances, McCullum was satisfied with how his side had dealt with the challenge of facing up to the world champions so far, starting with scoring enough runs.”I thought the way we constructed our batting innings again through the back of Kane [Williamson] and Ross’s [Taylor] partnership, and Martin’s [Guptill] hand, gave us the platform from where to launch,” McCullum said. “And whilst the game was shortened, we were still in a nice position to do so. The batting blueprint was again executed tonight, which was encouraging obviously. And again I thought under pressure against a very good Indian batting line-up, we delivered at key times. It’s big from a confidence point of view. When it comes to India’s batsmen, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have had plenty of success in the past year as an opening pair but New Zealand have been able to separate them without too much damage.McCullum said the key was to be effective with the new ball. “Ideally you want to take wickets up front and that’s where we spend our resources much, especially to try to attack early on knowing how important wickets are to the confidence of a team chasing. If we can get early wickets – we weren’t able to do that – but we did the next best thing which is to control the run-rate. And when you control the run-rate, there is pressure on the batsman and the wickets sort of followed after that.”I thought it was a pretty good performance from us with the ball under pressure. They played again some excellent hands. [Virat] Kohli again was brilliant to watch, put us under pressure but we stepped up at key times, different guys as well which was encouraging.”Kohli has made 123 and 78 in Napier and Hamilton respectively, and as long as he was in flow in both matches, along with MS Dhoni, India were in with a chance. McCullum said that to be in the hunt in such big chases despite losing other key batsmen showed what a quality side New Zealand were up against.”Continue to learn that they (Kohli and Dhoni) are very, very good players. They are obviously very good at how to construct a run chase around, both those guys. It’s quite important to not sit against them, it is important to try and take wickets knowing that if you can remove one of those two, it goes a long way towards nullifying their chase.”They are a very good team. There are not too many teams around the world where you head in at half time in a 42-over game with 300 on the board and you know that you still have to scrap pretty hard with the ball and in the field. Against this team we know that’s the case and thankfully we got it done under pressure.”One example of getting it done under pressure was Corey Anderson, who took quite a beating initially before coming back to pick up three late wickets, including the critical one of Dhoni. McCullum was grateful for the aggressive role Anderson played with the bat, but added it was important to support bowlers.”With the ball, he didn’t start that well, he knows that. One of the things we are trying to do is to ensure that you keep giving guys opportunities even though they may not start well but you need to keep coming back to them. Otherwise they will never get the opportunity to learn either. So that’s one thing that we are pretty keen on, still allowing him to have that opportunity under pressure at the end there to really stand up and show how he can operate under pressure. I thought he did that really well, I think he learnt quite a lot with the ball in hand today.”

أكد محمود عبد العاطي دونجا لاعب ببيراميدز، أن النادي الأهلي لا يقبل خسارة أي بطولة، خاصة عندما يكون خصمه الفريق السماوي.

وبسؤاله عن رأيه في مقولة أن بيراميدز تم إنشاؤه مكايدة في الأهلي، قال: “نحن لا نتحدث عن الأهلي مُطلقًا في أي شيء، نركز في عملنا فقط، ولو البعض يقول إن بيراميدز لا يحصل على بطولات لأن لاعبيه (بيدلعوا)، عليه أن يأتي ويُشاهد التدريب (وإزاي بنموت نفسنا)”.

وعن صفع حسين الشحات لاعب الأهلي لمحمد الشيبي ظهير بيراميدز، قال: “حسين كان يريد أن يُمرر الكرة بين قدمي الشيبي، ولكن الأخير قطع الكرة وقال له (إنت مجنون عايز تلبسني كوبري)، وهذه الأمور عادية تحدث بين اللاعبين، وحدث انفعال من دكة الأهلي”.

وأوضح: “محمود فتح الله المدرب المساعد بنادي بيراميدز طالب الشيبي بالتركيز في الملعب ولا يتطرق لأمور أخرى، والموقف انتهى، بعد اللقاء وجدنا شدًا وجذبًا ولم أر ما حدث من لاعب الأهلي تجاه الشيبي”.

واختتم: “على الرغم من أن حسين صديقي لكنني لم أكن سأصمت إذا رأيت ما فعله مع الشيبي، هذا ليس أسلوب الشحات، أنا أعرفه منذ سنوات عديدة، لكن ما فعله لا يجوز، قدر أنه مثل أخيك هل ستصمت إذا فعل معه أحد ذلك؟”.
