Sri Lanka is the ICC’s preferred venue for the Champions Trophy after it removed the tournament, which is scheduled for September and October, from Pakistan during its meeting in Perth. The safety and security situation in Pakistan was considered too risky and Haroon Lorgat, the ICC’s chief executive, expected a decision on the new host would be confirmed “shortly”.”There are a couple of issues to work through in regard to the weather in Sri Lanka at that time of year,” Lorgat said in the West Australian. “The dates are confirmed and, given the heavy scheduling, there is no way they could be changed. There are no issues of safety and security there.”The 2008 Champions Trophy was postponed by a year due to the problems in Pakistan and this year’s tournament is scheduled to run from September 25 to October 5. While Pakistan will not be the hosts, the PCB will receive the revenue from the event.Sri Lanka hosted the Champions Trophy in September 2002 and the prize was shared after the final was played twice and washed out both times. Australia are the defending champions after winning in India in 2006.

كشفت تقارير صحفية ألمانية أن لاعب فريق تشيلسي تيمو فيرنر قد يضغط من أجل الرحيل عن النادي الإنجليزي، في موسم الانتقالات الصيفي الحالي.

“I think Reach has done well overall. Poor at Preston but he wasn’t alone in that, but decent against Derby and again yesterday. Yes, Townsend probably regains the spot when the centre-backs are fit but Reach has done a handy job.”

The Verdict: More still needed

Reach hasn’t exactly been an earth-shattering signing for West Brom so far, but his performance on Friday was an encouraging one.

He showed for Wednesday that he is capable of scoring stunning goals, and was called a ‘top player’ by Tony Pulis, but he needs to perform consistently to be a regular starter for the Baggies.

Aston Villa, along with Midlands rivals Birmingham City and West Brom, have been linked with a move for Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper, Football League World report.

The Lowdown: Cooper profiled

Cooper is just 21 years of age and has already made 68 senior appearances for Argyle. Nine of those have come this season, with the shot-stopper keeping five clean sheets in Plymouth’s impressive start to the campaign.

Manager Ryan Lowe has hailed Cooper, claiming he has ‘quality in abundance’ and is ‘going to the top’.

Cooper is represented by Unique Sports Management, the same agency as Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, and has just under three years remaining on his Home Park deal.

Football League World shared a story on Thursday morning regarding Cooper. They were informed by a source that a number of clubs, including Villa, are keeping tabs on the ‘keeper.

Villa’s Premier League rivals, Brentford and Southampton, along with Championship sides Birmingham City, Coventry City, Sheffield United and West Brom have also been credited with an interest.

The Verdict: Shrewd target?

Villa have just two senior goalkeepers on the books in Emiliano Martinez and Jed Steer after failing to replace Tom Heaton over the summer.

So, bringing in Cooper could help Villa when it comes to solving their long-term goalkeeping plans.

Cooper is clearly highly thought of amongst a plethora of teams in the top two divisions, so Villa winning the race for his services and then potentially loaning him back to Argyle could be a smart call.

كشف الهولندي ماتياس دي ليخت عن وجود اتصال مستمر بينه وبايرن ميونخ الألماني على مدار السنوات الثلاث الماضية، متحدثًا عن قرار رحيله عن يوفنتوس وانضمامه للعملاق البافاري، وسبب تجاهله لعرض تشيلسي.

وأعلن بايرن ميونخ ضم دي ليخت رسميًا من يوفنتوس حتى يونيو 2027، وقد أجرى الهولندي مقابلة مع “بيلد” الألمانية.

وقال دي ليخت: “لطالما تابعت بايرن ميونخ عن كثب لأنه ناد مثير للاهتمام وناجح، كان لاعبو بايرن الهولنديون السابقون مثل آريين روبن ومارك فان بوميل يشيدون دائمًا بهذا النادي”.

وأضاف: “لقد أكد لي الجميع ما هو نادي بايرن المذهل، بالإضافة إلى ذلك، أشعر دائمًا بالارتباط بالعقلية الألمانية: للعمل بجد، وأن أكون منضبطًا وأمتلك العقلية الصحيحة، شعرت أن بايرن وأنا نسير معًا بشكل جيد للغاية!”.

وتابع دي ليخت: “قبل 3 سنوات كان هناك بالفعل الكثير من المحادثات مع بايرن ومع أندية أخرى، انتهى بي المطاف بالذهاب إلى يوفنتوس، وأنا ممتن لأنني اتخذت هذه الخطوة في تلك المرحلة”.

وواصل الهولندي: “لكن منذ ذلك الحين، كانت هناك بالفعل محادثات متكررة بين مينو رايولا وحسن صالح حميديتش، اللذين ظلوا يسألون عني، هكذا كانت العلاقة بيني وبين بايرن دائمًا موجودة”.

دي ليخت تحدث عن أسلوب بايرن ميونخ قائلًا: “صحيح أن توجه يوفنتوس أكثر دفاعية، أسلوب بايرن الهجومي يناسبني بالتأكيد وكان في الواقع سببًا لقراري بالانتقال إلى ميونخ، بايرن يلعب كرة قدم موجهة للأمام بضغط شديد، وهذا يناسب قوتي”.

وأكمل: “يوليان ناجيلسمان هو أيضًا مدرب أثبت أنه يعرف كيفية تطوير اللاعبين الشباب جيدًا، وما زلت أرى نفسي كلاعب شاب يريد أن يتحسن، كرة القدم تأتي أولاً في قراري”.

Daren Powell did well to survive the second evening as nightwatchman, but he wasn’t expected to be around for long this morning. However, it ended up taking most of the session to remove him as he completed his longest Test innings both in terms of time and balls faced. He even started to think like a batsman, too, asking for an extra drink of water and a change of gloves. Many people have said he is better than an average of seven suggests, and he showed what can he achieved when he puts his head down.Walk away, Stuart
Stuart Broad really should know how to behave around umpires. His dad, Chris, is an ICC match referee after all. But he needs to be careful with his appealing as he has a habit of not turning around to see the decision. It’s partly youthful enthusiasm which shouldn’t be knocked, but officials note these things. When he struck Brendan Nash with a yorker he was sure it was lbw and raced into his follow through and towards the wicketkeeper. Only when level with the stumps did he look at Daryl Harper, who by now was stood at mid-on. That replays showed it was hitting leg stump won’t have made Broad feel any better.Feeling queasy
Steve Harmison wasn’t quite himself for most for most of the day as he struggled with heat sickness. Towards the end of his fourth over he nearly threw up at the end of his run and after chatting with team doctor, Mike Stone, he left the field. At least it wasn’t quite as dramatic as when Neil Smith was sick in the middle of the pitch during a World Cup match against UAE in 1996. This is the sort of pitch to make a wicketkeeper cry. They are waiting to see whether the ball will climb at shoulder-height or stay down by the ankles. Matt Prior was caught out by the grubbers plenty of times, and by the time the third or fourth one shot past him (just missing the helmets, which would have been five runs) all he could do was smile – and maybe curse a bit. However, he did seem to have a bit of a problem bring his legs together quickly enough. He wouldn’t have made a hockey goalkeeper, but then they do wear huge oversized pads.Chanderpaul in a trot
Two innings without a half-century – is Shivnarine Chanderpaul in a slump? He ground his way to 20 in Kingston and although there’s nothing unusual in that, the fact he didn’t kick on was. Now here in Antigua he couldn’t even get going, drawn into a loose drive against Stuart Broad. Bowlers the world over will be hunting down Broad’s mobile phone number to ask him how he did it. Some have bowled at Chanderpaul for days on end without making an impression.Why bother with the pitch
Ridge, what ridge? The channel on a good length made a few balls misbehave, but it didn’t account for any of the wickets. That Graeme Swann grabbed five of England’s scalps showed that there was more than one way to skin a cat on this surface. And for the wicket of Denesh Ramdin he took the pitch out of the equation all together. Having had Ramnaresh Sarwan caught at midwicket he threw the next one up so much it was a low full toss, which Ramdin – to his own disbelief and also Swann’s – chipped straight back to the bowler. Can’t blame the ridge for that.
