Brighton have offered Celtic €25m for striker Odsonne Edouard, according to reporter Rudy Galetti.

The Lowdown: Edouard’s Celtic stance

The 23-year-old has less than 12 months left on his Hoops contract and nearly joined Leicester City earlier this summer.

The Foxes decided to sign Patson Daka instead, however, Edouard is still keen to seal a Parkhead exit during the current window.

He featured in Ange Postecoglou’s first competitive game in charge of Celtic on Tuesday but was replaced after 78 minutes for Albian Ajeti.

According to Galetti, Graham Potter’s side are leading the way in the race to sign Edouard.

A bid of €25m (£21.4m) has been tabled and could be enough to close the deal, describing it as an ‘evolving situation’.

The Verdict: Time to sell…

If Brighton’s £21.4m bid is accurate, then Celtic need to cash in. Edouard’s Transfermarkt valuation stands at £15.3m – the highest it has been in his career, so the Hoops would be receiving £6m more than that figure.

It’s also more than Celtic received for Moussa Dembele, with the Hoops parting ways when Lyon paid £19.8m for the forward back in 2018.

Of course, there’s the 50% sell-on clause on any profit owed to Paris Saint-Germain in the £9m deal which brought Edouard to Glasgow, but Celtic would still be left with £15.2m – a respectable fee when you take into consideration the overall situation.

Zidane has had quite a remarkable football career, both as a player and a manager.

The Latest: Zidane turned down

Speaking to talkSPORT, Zidane’s agent at the time Barry Silkman revealed how back in 1996 the St. James’ Park faithful turned down the chance to sign his client, who was relatively unknown playing for Bordeaux in Ligue 1:

“I spoke with Kevin and said I’ve seen this player out in France and he looks absolutely fantastic. His name is Zinedine Zidane. He was 24 and this was in the January of 1996.

“Kevin said to me he would get somebody on it and has someone out in France and he knows the players and would get him watched.

“I said ‘Kev, one million per cent he will be good enough’.

“While I was there, I went to see the president of Bordeaux and he told me they wanted £1.2million and if they got that they would pay me a small commission out of it.

“I thought there was probably a deal to be done a £1million, but if I stick to £1.2million then at least I’m safe.

“I told Kevin the price was £1.2million. He sent somebody to watch him and then a couple of days after that he sent me a fax.

“He got his report back from the guy who watched him and said the player has got no chance of making it, at best he could play for Wolves – who were bottom of the First Division.”

The Verdict: What could have been

Given what Zidane has gone on to achieve in his career, it certainly seems strange that the person who was sent over to watch him by manager at the time Kevin Keegan did not think that he would be good enough for the North East club.

It is a story of what could have been on Tyneside, as Zidane could well have made the difference in them winning a Premier League title and just missing out.

Nonetheless, it is certainly such a fascinating story to hear for the Toon Army, and one that they will ponder over when watching the Magpies.

كشف الإسباني، إيكر كاسياس، حارس مرمى فريق ريال مدريد الأسبق، عن توقعاته للفائز بنهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا بين فريقه السابق وليفربول.

ويواجه ريال مدريد نظيره ليفربول، مساء السبت في نهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا، على ملعب “دو فرانس” بالعاصمة الفرنسية باريس، وتنطلق المباراة في تمام الساعة التاسعة مساءً بتوقيت القاهرة.

وقال كاسياس في تصريحات عبر شبكة “ريال فرانس” الفرنسية: “أعتقد أن تنتهي المباراة 1-1 ويفوز ريال مدريد بركلات الترجيح، إذا تصدى كورتوا لركلة واحدة، ذلك سيكون جيدًا”.

West Bromwich Albion have been dealt a blow in their bid to bring Jonson Clarke-Harris to The Hawthorns this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Darragh MacAnthony, with the Peterborough United chairman revealing in a post on Twitter that the centre-forward looks set to remain at the Weston Homes Stadium next season.

Clarke-Harris has been heavily linked with a move away from the newly-promoted Championship side this summer, with West Brom, Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Rangers all thought to be keen on the 27-year-old.

However, it would appear as if this reported interest could have hit a dead end as, in response to Posh a fan suggesting that the forward would need replacing in the summer transfer window, MacAnthony said: “No he won’t.”

Fans will be fuming

With Mbaye Diagne having returned to Galatasaray upon the expiry of his loan deal at West Brom at the end of last season, and with the club so far having failed to replace the 29-year-old with a new centre-forward signing this summer, that a deal for Clarke-Harris now appears to be dead in the water is sure to have left Albion fans fuming.

When taking into account the success Brentford enjoyed after signing Ivan Toney from Peterborough 12 months ago – with the striker bagging 33 goals over 48 Championship appearances on the way to the Bees’ promotion – West Brom signing Clarke-Harris could well have replicated Thomas Frank’s move for the 25-year-old.

Indeed, over his 44 League One appearances last season, the £900k-rated marksman scored a whopping 31 goals, provided three assists and created 11 big chances for his teammates, taking 2.9 shots and making one key pass per game.

These returns saw the £6.1k-per-week centre-forward earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.24, ranking him as Darren Ferguson’s second-best performer in the third tier of English football.

It may have been something of a gamble for a team with Premier League aspirations such as West Brom to sign a player who is relatively unproven at Championship level. However, considering that the same thing could have been said about Brentford’s signing of Toney last year, and that the £25.2m-rated man is now worth more than five times the £5.04m fee the Bees paid for the striker, Clarke-Harris would seem to have been a risk worth taking for Valerien Ismael and his side.
