Whilst Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a move away from Glasgow Rangers in recent months – with recent reports revealing Lille remain interested in the Colombia international – Allan McGregor’s potential departure would be an equally devastating blow for Steven Gerrard.

What’s the word?

The veteran goalkeeper is enjoying a stellar campaign between the sticks at Ibrox this season, having conceded just one goal and kept six clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership.

However, his contract with the 54-time Scottish champions is set to expire at the end of the season, which means the club risk losing him as a free agent in the summer if he agrees to a pre-contract deal in January.

Former Rangers full-back Alan Hutton has urged the board to tie his former teammate McGregor down to a new deal, saying he has earned the right to an extension in an interview with Football Insider.

He said: “Even though he’s my best friend, take that out of it, I mean, I would literally give him a contract until he wanted to retire, that’s how highly I rate him.

“He’s a leading figure, he’s in a good place right now, he’s very fit, he looks after himself. He’s another one, an integral part of that squad as well.

“I would want to tie him down, and for me, I would just keep it rolling, he is that good, that good at the moment so it wouldn’t surprise me if they wanted to sign him for at least another year.”

It’s fair to say that his performances in recent weeks have warranted him to be rewarded with a new deal, having been trusted for most Europa League games so far this season.

With Leon Balogun and Connor Goldson forming a blossoming partnership at the back, together the trio have created a nigh-on impenetrable fortress at Ibrox, as Rangers have conceded a combined total of just nine goals in both domestic and European competitions so far.

For his part, McGregor has proven to be a dependable asset under Gerrard, as he was given the gloves to face Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season at Parkhead back in October.

Despite his age, it would be a real shame to see the 38-year-old leave the Gers as a free agent at the end of the season, as he has shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Gerrard heaped praise on McGregor after the “superb” stopper kept another clean sheet in the 4-0 win over Willem II in Tilburg during the qualifying rounds of the Europa League.

If he can help the Gers regain the title for the first time since the 2010-11 season, then we can see no reason why he won’t write his name into the history books.

Whilst much of the focus will be on Morelos, Ross Wilson and co must ensure that McGregor commits his future to the club and return the favour by rewarding him with a new and improved contract.

كشف مصدر بالجهاز الفني لمنتخب مصر عن بديل أحمد حجازي لاعب الفراعنة والاتحاد السعودي، في بطولة كأس العرب.

وتنطلق بطولة كأس العرب يوم 30 نوفمبر 2021 الجاري، وستنتهي يوم 18 ديسمبر المقبل، ويتواجد منتخب مصر في المجموعة الرابعة، بجوار لبنان والسودان والجزائر.

ويشارك في بطولة كأس العرب 16 منتخبًا عربيًا، هم (مصر- قطر – العراق – عمان – البحرين – تونس – الإمارات – سوريا – موريتانيا – المغرب – السعودية – الأردن – فلسطين – الجزائر – لبنان – السودان).

ويعد انضمام أحمد حجازي لمنتخب مصر في بطولة كأس العرب أمرا مشكوكا فيه، بسبب مشاركة السعودية في بطولة كأس العرب بمنتخب الناشئين 1999 كما أعلن هيرفي رينارد المدير الفني للأخضر، وبالتالي المسابقة المحلية ستستمر.

وقال المصدر لـ”بطولات”: “أيمن أشرف البديل الأول لأحمد حجازي في تشكيل منتخب مصر في مباريات كأس العرب وسيُعوض غيابه”.

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back from a week of defeats as they take a break from the Premier League action this evening.

Spurs face Wolves on Sunday, so with that in mind, here’s the XI we’re predicting this evening…

We’re expecting there to be vast changes in Staffordshire, though Spurs are still left with a very strong-looking lineup.

Between the sticks, we may see back-up goalkeeper Joe Hart take over from club captain Hugo Lloris, whilst usual central defensive partnership Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld are also granted a rest before Christmas.

It means we could see Ben Davies partner the outcasted Davinson Sanchez in the middle with Matt Doherty returning to replace Serge Aurier. Indeed, only Sergio Reguilon keeps his spot at left-back.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been an immense regular under Mourinho this term, so resting him for this encounter makes sense, whilst there are injury concerns over both Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele.

Harry Winks could be gifted a rare opportunity to impress alongside Moussa Sissoko, who is the second of three who remain from the Foxes’ defeat.

There is a big call to make over Dele Alli with the 24-year-old’s future up in the air. He was once again snubbed from the matchday squad in the Premier League – the tenth time this term – and we expect him to be involved, but from the bench as Gareth Bale gets the nod in the no.10 role.

Lucas Moura may return over Steven Bergwijn with Heung-min Son the final player to keep his place.

Whilst Harry Kane will surely be rested with Wolves in mind, so Carlos Vinicius comes in.

Academy stars Dane Scarlett, Harvey White and Jack Clarke could well be named as substitutes too.

A lot of Liverpool fans have flocked to a tweet from Reds news Twitter account @AnfieldWatch, which shared James Pearce’s negative verdict on Naby Keita’s injury-prone nature.

The Athletic reporter participated in a discussion thread with fans of the Merseyside club for their latest Premier League game versus Southampton.

One of the topics that Pearce was asked about in that thread was the expected return date for Keita from his latest setback, with the £36m-rated man, who has been ‘plagued by injuries’ since moving to Anfield from RB Leipzig for £54m in the summer of 2018, currently sidelined due to a muscle injury.

In response to that question, Pearce declared that Jurgen Klopp seemingly wants the midfielder back for Friday’s FA Cup clash with Aston Villa before going on to cast some doubt over how long he will remain fit, because “he doesn’t seem able to string a run of games together without picking up another knock.”

So, how have these Liverpool fans reacted to Pearce’s comments on Keita?

After the journalist’s comments were shared on Twitter by @AnfieldWatch, plenty of Reds supporters began directing anger towards the Guinean, with some indicating that they think he should be sold.

In other news, many Liverpool fans have been slating Trent Alexander-Arnold for his performance versus Southampton.

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back from their midweek heartache later this afternoon as they head to rock-bottom Sheffield United in the Premier League.

It was the same old problem for Jose Mourinho as his Spurs dropped points when holding 1-0 lead once again, something we’ve seen in games against Newcastle, Palace and Wolves.

Spurs did have plenty of chances to double their lead as Heung-min Son missed a whopping four big chances, and he was also found offside when Sergio Reguilon fired home in the second half.

Mourinho made a surprising call in starting central midfielder Moussa Sissoko at right-wing and that experiment ultimately failed.

The 31-year-old is just not cut out for an attacking role like that – per SofaScore, he managed to win only six of 14 duels (42.9%), lost possession 13 times, was dribbled past three times, and was graded a disappointing 6.6.

That meant he ranked as Spurs’ fourth-worst player whilst only two other members of the squad lost more duels. He was simply wasteful and ineffective.

But that’s hardly a surprise given he’s an ageing midfielder who has averaged a shocking 0.1 key passes and 0.1 shots per game in the Premier League this term.

Why Mourinho thought he could offer anything in attack is surprising when looking at those figures. They only prove his inefficiency. He’s either got to start further back or not at all, which is why a ruthless decision must be made against the Blades tomorrow.

The Frenchman, signed for £30m by Mauricio Pochettino, ought to be axed for an actual winger as both Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela were on the bench against Fulham.

Once dubbed “remarkable” by Arsene Wenger and compared to Steven Gerrard by Kevin Phillips, the £80k-per-week Sissoko clearly still has a lot to offer but neither of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Harry Winks should be expended for his presence in the engine room.

The one-time “disgrace” and “liability” has turned his career around at Spurs since Mourinho was appointed, but after that shocker in midweek, he must be dropped.

وعن الفيديو المنتشر بأنه حلل ركلة جزاء التي لم تحتسب لـ سيراميكا كليوباترا في مباراة الزمالك، قال: “الحديث كان مقتطع من مباراة سابقة وتم تركيبه على لقطة مباراة الزملك وسيراميكا، أنا احترم الجميع ولكل شخص رأيه المحترم والاختلاف في الرأي لا يفسد للود قضية”.

وتابع: “أحد الزملاء الصحفيين المصريين تحدث معي عن بعض الحالات، وأنا كنت أجهز نفسي للسفر ورأيت الحالة من خلال الهاتف، وقلت له في رسالة صوتية إني أتفق مع القرار الذي اتخذه الحكم وتقنية الفيديو بعدم احتسابها ركلة جزاء”.

وأوضح: “مفهوم التدخل ومسك اللاعب أصبح له مفهوم آخر، أن المسك يكون له تأثير ويمنعه عن المتابعة، عندما يتحرك اللاعب في عكس اتجاه اللاعب الذي مسك به، أو يقف لمنع اللاعب من الاستمرار، تحسب كمسك مؤثر، لكن لو اللاعبان يمسكان بعضهما في نفس الاتجاه لا يُصبح مؤثراً”.

وأكمل: “بعدها زميلي الصحفي عرض علي رأي آخر للمحلل الزميل أحمد الشناوي، قلت له امنحني وقتًا آخر أرى الحالة من جديد بعد رأي الشناوي”.

وواصل: “شاهدتها بالفعل مرة أخرى وأجبته بأنني لا زلت على قناعتي الأولى بأنه لا يوجد أي ركلة جزاء لأن المسك غير مؤثر وإني لم أر أي عرقلة”.
