Questionado se já teve que dar uma entrada mais dura em Renato Augusto no tempo das quadras, Ferraz não pestanejou.

– Euchegava, né. Tinha que chegar sempre– brincou.

Tottenham Hotspur have officially sealed their first summer signing prior to the 2020/21 Premier League season. 

Spurs have been linked to some of the biggest stars in world football, but arguably none are as exciting as Alfie Devine.

The 15-year-old was part of the Wigan Athletic FA Youth Cup side that beat Spurs as they stormed to the quarter-finals of the 2019/20 competition for the first time in the club’s history.

The former Liverpool academy player was released by the Premier League champions at the age of 11 and the Reds may live to regret their decision as he has been described as a “top class” talent by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

Wigan have sold their second prospect after entering administration as the Latics let Jensen Weir leave for Brighton last Thursday (BBC). Recent reports had suggested that Spurs had signed Devine several weeks ago, although those reports appear to have jumped the gun.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the midfielder travelled to north London to complete a medical and agree personal terms with the club earlier this month. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was left to work out a transfer fee with Wigan and the Lilywhites may turn their attention to Joe Gelhardt as well.

However, Jose Mourinho was determined to get his man and it has all worked out well in the end. Devine’s transfer reportedly cost Spurs roughly £300,000 as the Lilywhites said goodbye to Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm this week.

The teenager has departed the DW Stadium amid interest from Leeds United, Celtic, Rangers, Brighton, West Ham and Chelsea after Wigan confirmed the news on social media.

Mourinho has made it clear that he is willing to throw the youth in at the deep end to test themselves, as Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp have become regulars in the first team, and Devine will be hoping that he can follow in their footsteps.

An MP has made a claim on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United which involves fans of the Tyneside club.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery said with regards to the prospective £300m deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group:

“We could [alternatively] raise it with the DCMS Select Committee. So, this might just be the catalyst which means that football supporters nationwide might be invited in through the doors to be involved in the decision-making process.”

Indeed, if Lavery as well as the other 40 MPs who wrote to the Premier League last week do not get a reply from the top flight or its chief executive Richard Masters, then they could well go to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to raise the issue.

Lavery argues that fans from around the country may then get an invite to be involved in the decision-making process.

The Saudi-led consortium, consisting of the Middle Eastern crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS), his country’s Public investment Fund (PIF), businesswoman/head of PCP Capital Partners Amada Staveley and the London-based billionaire Reuben brothers, officially withdrew their own bid after growing increasingly frustrated with just how long it was taking for the Premier League and its CEO to come up with their final decision.

However, if supporters were potentially to get involved in the process, then it may well be accelerated and perhaps make it easier for the Premier League to arrive at their final decision.

Nevertheless, the league will surely have to give more clarity as to how exactly their process works in order for this to happen, in addition to giving their full cooperation to the parties involved in the deal.

O zagueiro Henrique, do Fluminense, se envolveu em um acidente de trânsito na manhã deste sábado, por volta das 6h30, na subida da Avenida Rui Barbosa, no bairro de São Francisco, em Niterói. O jogador, de 32 anos, perdeu o controle do veículo – uma Mercedes modelo esportivo cor prata, que colidiu com automóvel conduzido pelo taxista Paulo César Alves, e um ônibus (sacolão volante), que transportava frutas, legumes e verduras.

Henrique e o taxista sofreram ferimentos leves. Ambos prestaram depoimento na 79ª DP. O motorista do ônibus e as demais pessoas que estavam com ele não se feriram.

De acordo com informações do jornal “O Fluminense”, Henrique seguia em direção à Região Oceânica de Niterói e, ao perder o controle do carro, entrou na contramão, batendo no táxi, um Fiat Siena. Na sequência, o veículo do jogador ainda bateu no ônibus.

Segundo a publicação, as perdas das mercadorias que estavam no ônibus chegaria a R$ 15 mil.

Everton were dealt a blow to their transfer hopes on Tuesday as mooted midfield target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joined a rival Premier League club but they can alleviate matters with a swoop for Aaron Ramsey.

According to Duncan Castles, Juventus are prepared to offload the Welshman on a free transfer just a year after joining the club from Arsenal.

It’s claimed that the Toffees are one of the teams keen on clinching him but face the major stumbling block of his whopping £400k-per-week wages, though you’d imagine he’d have to take a pay cut if he’s going to move on from the Serie A.

Ramsey is currently valued at £25.2m by Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Hojbjerg’s £15m move to Spurs was confirmed earlier this week.

Forget Hojbjerg

Whilst the former Saints skipper would have been a very decent addition in Carlo Ancelotti’s engine room, a move for Ramsey could well be the better play.

If you forget about his wages for just a minute, he’s still one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Europe and despite being marred by a supposed poor injury record, he still featured 35 times for the Italian giants this term – and that’s because of team selection rather than niggles.

Back in 2015, Steven Gerrard lauded the ex-Gunners maestro as the ‘best attacking midfielder in the Premier League’ whilst his old boss Arsene Wenger believes he is the ‘complete midfielder’.

This is reinforced by his numbers from the 2013/14 season when the 29-year-old provided 12 goals and nine assists and finished with the most tackles of any Arsenal player.

If Ramsey could find half of his form throughout his north London career, then Everton would still be getting a major upgrade in midfield – one that is a massive need.

Neither Tom Davies nor Andre Gomes could average over a 6.5 rating this campaign whilst a measly 0.6 key passes per game is the best either could muster.

What’s the word?

According to Birmingham Live’s Ashley Preece, there’s “a possibility” that the Midlands outfit raid their local rivals Leicester City for winger Demarai Gray.

He “firmly believes” that the 24-year-old is on the list of winger targets at the club given that his contract is set to expire at the end of the new season.

It’s claimed that Villa are keen to add homegrown English talent with Premier League experience to their squad and the Foxes ace would fit meet that criteria.

Sinclair 2.0?

Despite the obvious squad regulations factor, it’s hard to understand why anyone would be in for Gray whether it’s for a fee this summer (£20m has been mooted) or on a free next.

There can’t be many players that have been rated so highly as a youngster and then just failed to make such a mark. Gray has featured in the Premier League 132 times yet has only provided ten goals and 11 assists.

18 of his 21 appearances this term were from the bench as Brendan Rodgers favoured other players, which is hardly a good sign either.

Yet Rodgers believes “he has all the tools to play at the very highest level. If you look at speed and power, and explosiveness, technique; those are attributes he has.”

Whilst Foxes teammate Christian Fuchs claims it has been his own mind holding him back, suggesting Gray is “unbelievable” in training – he might well be, but there’s nothing to suggest life would be any different at Villa Park.

This move could bear similarities to that of Scott Sinclair back in 2015. He arrived with a bit of promise about him, claiming that the move made him “the happiest I have been in a long time” yet he was part of a side that won just three matches all season and were duly relegated from the PL.

His two goals hardly helped.

Villa should steer well clear of this one.
