After a barn-storming performance and result against Chelsea to kick off the Premier League campaign, Manchester United have suffered a major dip in form.

The Red Devils followed up a shock defeat to Crystal Palace with a 1-1 draw away at ten-man Southampton, and it means the club have picked up just five points from their opening four league games.

However, one silver lining for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has been the explosive start enjoyed by summer signing Daniel James, who notched his third Premier League goal of the campaign at St Mary’s.

The strike means he has already equalled Alexis Sanchez’s record of three league goals, although it took the Chilean 45 games to do so himself.

Despite the disappointing draw to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, United fans took to Twitter to hail James for his eye-catching performance.

Many supporters of the Manchester side hailed the 21-year-old’s work on the wing, with the Welshman registering five shots and a joint game-high six crosses.

Some United fans admitted James may have been the only positive from the game, and labelled him an “absolute baller”.

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have criticised the performance of Declan Rice in England’s 5-3 win over Kosovo on Tuesday night.

Rice, who switched his allegiance from the Republic of Ireland to represent England, has seemingly developed into Gareth Southgate’s number one holding midfielder.

The West Ham United midfielder boasted a pass success rate of 92% and made two tackles during his 90 minutes on the field against Kosovo, according to WhoScored.

However, it would be fair to say that the 20-year-old did not provide his defence with much protection as Kosovo netted three times at St Mary’s.

It is not all that surprising that the Spurs fans have had a go at Rice when considering that the youngster is playing ahead of their very own Harry Winks.

Tuesday’s clash did not bring the finest defensive performance from England, and many Tottenham supporters have put some of the blame on Rice.

يُذكر أن الزمالك واتحاد الكرة تحت إدارة لجنتين مؤقتتين حتى الانتخابات المقرر انعقادها خلال العام الجاري.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed in his Crystal Palace pre-match press conference on Thursday that he held a one-hour meeting with his squad in order for them to refocus on their objectives, and it was desperately needed.

While draws away at reigning champions Manchester City and Arsenal so far look good on paper, the Argentine manager would surely have been furious with the result in the latter given they held a two-goal advantage at the Emirates.

Considering that also came on the back of a surprise 1-0 home defeat against Newcastle United, it has hardly been a vintage start to the campaign for a club who would love to be challenging for the Premier League title.

The north London outfit certainly weren’t helped by the majority of the transfer windows for the rest of Europe not closing until September 2, which meant speculation over the futures of the likes of the soon-to-be out of contract Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen continued nearly a month into the 2019/20 campaign.

Pochettino said on Thursday, via Football London:

“It was very good to talk today for nearly one hour and refocus again on our objective. To be clear in our minds, to think that the most important is the collective and start to put outside individual situations, all together again and try to create a dynamic and be strong and starting winning games.”

And that is vitally important.

Spurs have some winnable games on paper coming up in the top flight, while their Champions League campaign also gets underway with fixtures against Olympiacos and Bayern Munich in the next few weeks.

Six goals conceded in four Premier League encounters to date shows an improvement is needed there especially, while they also failed to break Newcastle down on their own patch.

Tottenham need every single member of their squad pulling in the same direction if they are to have a good season and get back to the brilliant – and consistent – levels they have shown previously, and Pochettino will hope his words of wisdom will see their fortunes change for the better – starting against Palace this weekend.

وأضاف: “الأشخاص المتواجدون في الإدارة هم من يديرون النادي أم أشخاص من خارج النادي؟، لا أعلم، ومع احترامي، من يُعلن عن رحيل مدرب قبل مباراة هامة لا يفقه الكرة، كيف سيتقبل اللاعبون توجيهاته قبل المباراة!، اللاعبون سيلعبون بمزاجهم، الوضع كارثي، الأجواء في الزمالك لا تشجع على العمل”.

وأردف: “الحل هو عمل انتخابات مجلس إدارة بشكل سريع، وإلا سنعيد الزمالك إلى فترة 2005، السيناريو الذي يدار هو البدء في تغيير المدربين ويظل الفريق في حالة تفكك، ثم يصطدم اللاعبون بالجماهير، ويرحلون، والفريق يصبح فارغًا، وسنعتاد ما حدث في الميركاتو الماضي كثيرًا، وهو ضم صفقتين في 10 دقائق بعشرين مليون جنيه، أحدهما لا يلعب في إفريقيا، والثاني لم يشارك في الدوري غير 6 مباريات ولا يمتلك أي خبرات إفريقية لكي يقود هجوم الأبيض”.

وواصل: “انا لست متشائمًا، ولكن هذا هو السيناريو الذي تسوقنا الإدارة الحالية له”، مشيرًا إلى أنه لا يعرف لماذا رحل عن قطاع الناشئين بالنادي.

Three goals in his opening four Premier League appearances and some impressive all-round centre-forward performances – it is fair to say that West Ham United striker Sebastien Haller had made a positive impression for his new club prior to the visit of Manchester United to the London Stadium on Sunday.

In the matches against Manchester City, Watford, Aston Villa and Norwich City, the £45m club-record buy arguably didn’t really come up against a top-class centre-half who is big and strong in the air – think Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk for example.

Another one in Harry Maguire lined up against Haller when the Red Devils made the trip south at the weekend, and the former Frankfurt attacker didn’t really get much joy from his battle with the dominant England international, despite his own 6 foot 3 frame.

The Irons may have run out 2-0 winners against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, but the Frenchman would have learnt a lot about himself and what is needed on certain occasions in the Premier League in this latest showing.

As Football London said in their player ratings from the clash, he barely had any touches in or around the opposition penalty area in the opening 45 minutes, and while he may have had the better of Red Devils centre-back Victor Lindelof, it wasn’t the same against Maguire.

That said according to WhoScored, the 25-year-old won nine aerial duels throughout the encounter – out of a total of 15 as per SofaScore – although he failed to have a single shot on target.

Haller was also dispossessed on three occasions as he simply didn’t have things his own way, with a rather disappointing passing accuracy of 71%.

If the Frenchman was even beginning to think this English football lark was easy following his goalscoring displays against Villa and Norwich, this certainly was a bit of a rude awakening and would have brought him down a peg or two.

What is clear is that Haller needs to work harder if he wants to get the better of the likes of Maguire and be a huge success in this league in the future.

أكد محمد عبد المنصف حارس مرمى وادي دجلة أنه كان يتمنى التواجد ضمن قائمة منتخب مصر لمباراتي كينيا وجزر القمر في التصفيات المؤهلة لكأس الأمم الإفريقية.

وقال عبد المنصف في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر قناة “أون تايم سبورتس”: “كان عندي أمل في التواجد بقائمة المنتخب وكانت المفاجأة إنني لست متواجدًا، وبالتأكيد شعرت بالظُلم”.

وأكمل: “أنا حزين لأنني كنت أرغب في تحقيق حلمي وهذا لم يحدث، لم أنضم للمنتخب ولكن علمت قدر حب الناس وهذا أعطاني شعور بأنني استفدت ولم أتضرر، وذلك من ردود الأفعال التي كانت تطالب بتواجدي وأن هذا تقديرًا لعملي، ويكفي أن أرى مقابل اجتهادي في عيون الناس بالشارع”.

وأردف: “قلت قبل ذلك في رسالة للجهاز الفني للمنتخب لا تقلقون من ضمي إذا كنت حارس رابع، وأنني سأعمل وأجتهد ولن أتسبب في مشاكل، وكنت أرغب في العمل فقط”.

هل كنت ستطالب بشارة قيادة منتخب مصر؟، أجاب: “لا أحد يفرط في شارة القيادة، واحترامي لكل اللاعبين ولكن عندما أنضم للمنتخب بالتأكيد لن أتنازل عن الشارة مثل أحمد فتحي، أنا كنت قائدًا لأكثر من فريق وأعرف قدرها، أستطيع التعامل في غرفة الملابس وهذا أمر هام”.

وتابع: “طلبت معرفة معايير انضمام أي لاعب لمنتخب مصر، ولم أهاجم أحد، وأعتقد أن مسألة الأعمار ليست متوقفة على مركز حراسة المرمى، تربطني علاقة جيدة بالجهاز الفني للمنتخب، وأشعر بالضيق بالتأكيد، ولكن أدعم المنتخب وأحترم وجهات النظر”.

‘The atmosphere was amazing’, says Fornals

Report: Summer signing Fornals was making his second start for the club in the win against Manchester United, but has hailed the London Stadium atmosphere as amazing, despite its criticism from the fans over the years.

Fornals told WHUFC.com: “The atmosphere in the stadium was amazing. I had four friends and my girlfriend here too. Now I’ll ask them if they enjoyed the game, but [from the pitch] I think that the atmosphere was unbelievable!”

Verdict: Since West Ham’s move to the London Stadium in 2016, the club has come under much scrutiny because of the stadium’s lack of atmosphere, which has partly been explained by the Olympic track that naturally takes the fans further away from the action. Towards the end of the 2017/18 season, a riot almost descended as crowds gathered around the directors’ box to express their anger, with some even invading the pitch.

Of course, it is no secret that the key to a good atmosphere is winning. However, if West Ham can continue to break the barrier of the top-six and beat teams like Man United more often, surely more memorable, atmospheric nights will come at the London Stadium.

As a result of this magnificent win, the Hammers are up to fifth and on the same points as third-placed Leicester City.

‘I don’t know if they’re going to score enough goals’, says Merson

Report: Paul Merson has his doubts about whether or not West Ham can break into the top-six this season. Merson spoke on The Debate (Via The Boot Room) and said: “Will West Ham finish in the top six? You’ve got to look at it two weeks ago against Villa. They drew 0-0 against Villa. No disrespect but Arsenal scored three goals against them with 10 men.

“I like West Ham. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t know if they’re going to score enough goals. A lot of people asked me about this game at the weekend. I said it could be anything. If Manchester United win, you wouldn’t be shocked. If West Ham won, you wouldn’t be shocked. It was one of those games.”

Verdict: Understandably so, Merson his has doubts, as it wasn’t too long ago that West Ham were losing 5-0 at home to Manchester City, and just last week they played out a poor goalless draw against Aston Villa.

However, there is no question that West Ham have quality around the pitch, especially going forward. Sebastian Haller has proved to be a great signing, scoring three times so far, whilst Andriy Yarmolenko has two this season. Elsewhere, Declan Rice continues to become one of the league’s most promising midfielders, averaging a rating of 7.05, alongside Mark Noble who won the Man of the Match for his display against United.Based on West Ham’s start and the poor beginnings of the usual top-six contenders, there is little doubt that Manuel Pellegrini’s man can battle with the top-six. Although, it is early days, and keeping the entire team ticking and fresh from injuries throughout the season is a task within itself and may require some luck along the way.Rice ‘top-notch’, says Kevin NolanReport: Former West Ham man Kevin Nolan has heaped the praise on Declan Rice after another great performance against United at the weekend.
