Tottenham Hotspur continue to track Barcelona winger Malcom this summer, per Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the word?

The Brazilian forward, who made 24 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19, is set for talks with the Spanish club over his future.

The report claims that Malcom hopes to stay at the Camp Nou next season but that he is deemed as one of the club’s most saleable assets.

There are a number of clubs said to be monitoring the forward, with Spurs and Arsenal both making their interest known to Barca.

Mundo Deportivo mention that the north London clubs have been the “most in contact in recent weeks”. Inter Milan are also interested.

Another revival

Malcom and Barcelona is a relationship that hasn’t really worked out.

He scored just four goals in all competitions and provided a mere two assists this season.

Signed from Bordeaux for a fee of £36.5m, his return has been paltry, particularly in a team that also boasts the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

It is not hard to see why Barca are willing to cash in and Spurs could be the perfect suitors.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has worked miracles on players before – look at Lucas Moura’s renaissance and Moussa Sissoko’s emergence as the best midfielder outside of the top two in England – and this could be yet another example if the deal becomes a reality.

One feels that he could use a change of scenery to get back to the form he showed at Bordeaux and working with Pochettino could see him again become one of the most exciting wingers in European football.

It may not be a priority right now, but this would be a smart deal on both sides.

Many supporters of the Red Devils were left astounded that the club would reach the conclusion of offering Pogba a bumper new contract when his performances haven’t warranted it, and simply labelled it as “absolutely disgusting”.

Indeed, some urged United to let the Frenchman go this summer and described the 26-year-old as distinctly “over-rated” and “another Sanchez”.

Their achievement unquestionably deserved greater recognition.This oversight can be extended to the players too and none more so than their 19-year-old right-back Max Aarons whose emergence in his first full season as a professional was little short of a revelation. Last August the Hammersmith-born defender was an academy prospect whose name was barely known beyond Norfolk.Ten months and 41 league games later his consistently elite performances saw him included in the Championship Team of the Season while beating out the likes of Harry Wilson to win the EFL Young Player of the Season award.It’s worth remembering that Aarons is a full-back, traditionally not a role that stands out, but that would be discounting his athletic displays down Norwich’s right with equal impact across the halfway line as part of Farke’s back-line. As per Sky Sports only two defenders attempted more dribbles than the youngster in the Championship last term while his six assists is a figure some out-and-out wingers would be happy with. In fairness there have been murmurings of Aarons gaining the attention of major clubs throughout the season, such as Tottenham’s interest in March. But the spotlight is truly starting to shine amid reports claiming Manchester United are keen to sign the brilliant teen as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer begins his summer overhaul of a mismatched, inherited squad with a remit of bringing in British, promising young players. Aarons certainly fits the bill here as he does too with the clear need to bring back an offensive style of play to Old Trafford after the laborious football of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

So far then, so straightforward, except of course Aarons is not the only right-back that United are actively seeking to recruit this window. Their prolonged chase for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka continues at a pace and at the time of writing it appears that they are finally on the brink of getting their man and all for a fee that would be a world record sum for a full-back.

With a figure of £15m being mooted for the Norwich star Aarons would be a far cheaper proposition and that is pertinent if the rumour is to be believed that United only have £100m available to spend prior to funds raised from player sales. Furthermore, there is an argument to be made that the younger of the two would be a more suitable addition to Solskjaer’s grand project.

This incidentally is no reflection on Wan-Bissaka. As stated in these very pages recently the 21-year-old has been phenomenal this past year – he finished the season with the third-highest tackle average of any Premier League player and has become almost impossible to get past for opposing wingers.

That defensive steel though is not who United need going forward, if such a pun can be excused. With Antonio Valencia now moved on and Ashley Young ever-more ineffectual, Solskjaer’s intention to replicate the flying full-backs acting as auxiliary wingers from Sir Alex Ferguson’s golden era has Aarons as the perfect candidate at the fraction of the cost of Wan-Bissaka

It’s time that was recognised.

According to Superdeporte, Aston Villa are one of the teams interested in Portuguese starlet Rafael Leao.

The forward, who currently plays for Lille, is also attracting the attention of Valencia in a deal which could cost any potential suitor a fee in the region of €30m (£26.9m) per the report.

Yet, despite the price of the deal after spending £22m on Wesley, Villa fans seemed to be absolutely delighted at the possibility of signing him.

They flocked to Twitter to have their say and they were hugely excited. One fan said that he and Wesley would be unbelievable together as one individual begged with Villa to sign him.

Another supporter suggested he was a great prospect whilst a further tweeter made reference to Anwar El Ghazi, saying that if Leao was anything like the Dutchman after his loan move from Lille, they should get him in.

The striker was in solid form in Ligue 1 last term, finding the net on eight occasions whilst also picking up three assists in 24 outings.

Leao has previously been described as the ‘Portuguese Mbappe’ so that particular slice of information bodes well for Villa supporters.

According to reports from The Sun, Jack Clarke will join Tottenham in a deal worth an initial £8.5m which could potentially rise to £13m.

Understandably, that figure has gotten people talking as it is much lower than the £20m Spurs were reportedly quoted earlier in the window.

Many United supporters are furious at this latest update, and you can see why. A number of fans will have been expecting a huge financial windfall when they sold their young talent, but instead, they will be receiving a much lower fee.

The Yorkshire outfit are reportedly operating on a sell before you buy policy, so it is vital for the club to maximise their profits when conducting business of this kind.

But while some Leeds fans may feel they have been ripped off, have they actually? Clarke is unproven at the top level, and he wasn’t even a consistent starter for the Whites last term.

“In the modern market you’d certainly expect Leeds to be selling a player like Clarke for more than that. I wouldn’t necessarily say they’d be getting ripped off but it could definitely be seen as poor business. He’s one of their most promising young players, having made 24 league appearances last term, and therefore Spurs would definitely be getting the better end of this deal after the potential he displayed.

I don’t think Leeds would even be able to strengthen their squad too much by taking in a measly £8.5m. If they can bump the transfer fee to something around the £15m mark they’d be far better off for it. At the current rate, they’d be foolish to sell.”

“There are two sides to every negotiation and Leeds have clearly deemed Clarke as being worth £8.5m. It may seem like a paltry figure in today’s market but, really, what exactly is his pedigree? Clarke has played a single season of senior professional football and there’s no reason that any club should have to pay upwards of £10m for him. Spurs, after all, are trying to speculate to accumulate here. Clarke could end up being a genuinely excellent signing, becoming the next youngster to emerge as a brilliant first-team player. Or he could sink without a trace and end up moved on elsewhere. If it’s the former, this looks a terrible deal for Leeds, but really, they can’t ask for any more. It’s a totally fair price.”

“I don’t believe Leeds are being ripped off for Clarke when you consider the total fee including the add-ons, as the youngster has so little first-team experience and none in the top flight. However, it is a little bizarre to me that a side on the brink of something great would accept a deal that effectively limits how much of the fee they can spend this summer. A couple more first-team signings could be just the extra push needed to go one step further to promotion next year, and the full fee up front would have gone a long way to helping that ambition.”

Southampton fans on Twitter are divided after midfielder Mario Lemina was left out of the club’s 26-man squad for the pre-season tour to Austria.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from St Mary’s after The Telegraph reported last month that Saints were willing to listen to offers for the Gabon international, who confirmed in an interview with Foot Mercato over the weekend that he is seeking pastures new.

The African ace joined the south coast outfit from Juventus two summers ago and is clearly talented when he wants to be, but he has never managed to hold down a regular place in the starting XI under Mauricio Pellegrino, Mark Hughes or Ralph Hasenhuttl in his 52 appearances.

Absence because of an abdominal injury for the majority of the Austrian’s time at the helm so far has hardly helped Lemina’s case, and he only started once in the team’s final five Premier League fixtures in 2018/19 on his return to fitness, remaining an unused substitute in two.

Saints supporters on social media are certainly split over the decision to omit the midfielder from the trip to Austria, with one saying “if we actually sell Lemina I’m done”, but another disagreed and believes “his head hasn’t been in it for a while now”.
