Everton fans react as Vlasic’s father slams Silva

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Everton fans have been discussing the future of Nikola Vlasic, after the youngster’s father and agent said Marco Silva made a mistake shipping him out on loan.

A bad transfer window can set a club back several years – just ask Liverpool fans about the time they replaced Luis Suarez with Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli.

The Toffees splashed out loads of cash last summer, but only Jordan Pickford has really had the desired effect at Goodison.

Vlasic was one of multiple captures that barely made any impact at all, playing just twelve times in the Premier League and failing to score.

The 20-year-old winger has been a huge hit on loan with CSKA Moscow though, grabbing an assist in the recent win against FC Ufa, before scoring one and assisting one in the Champions League and grabbing a goal in the derby against Spartak Moscow.

“Marco Silva is under enormous pressure because he gave Nikola away on loan,” his father and agent, Josko Vlasic, said.

“Many fans and journalists believe Everton have big problems in midfield, and Nikola is the player they need.

“Nikola told Silva before leaving he considered himself the best midfielder in the team. The manager made a big mistake.”

To be fair to Vlasic, he has excelled in a central role in Moscow, although bashing the manager of your parent club is a strange way to go about charming your way back into his plans.

Opinion: Aston Villa must target Jozo Simunovic in January after Brendan Rodgers’ comments

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers told BT Sport on Sunday that he had too many players in his squad and that it was ‘very, very bloated’, providing the perfect chance for Aston Villa to secure themselves a centre-back in the January transfer window.

What’s the situation?

Whoever comes in as the new manager to replace Steve Bruce at Villa will have a huge task on their hands as the club sit 15th in the Championship table and have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions.

The Villans had a torrid time during the summer after missing out on promotion to the Premier League at the final hurdle, losing 1-0 to Fulham in the Championship playoff final. This cost the club more than just face too as they were plunged into a financial crisis and were faced with a winding up order from HMRC.

Luckily for the fans, new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens then ploughed money into the club but Bruce ended the summer transfer window with just two recognised centre-backs in his squad and still insisted on playing Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe at right-back.

This meant that Mile Jedinak was asked to play in the centre of defence and Villa will now surely have to buy in January.

Game time

Simunovic could be the perfect option right now for Villa. The 24-year-old joined the Bhoys in the summer of 2015 from Dinamo Zagreb but is currently a long way from being first-choice partner to Dedryck Boyata at Parkhead.

A former Croatian U21 international, Simunovic would surely be available for a reasonably small fee given the admission of Rodgers, and he could be exactly what Villa need to stop their current rot. With the offer of more game time south of the border too, a potential deal would surely benefit all parties.

So, Villa fans, would you like to see Simunovic at Villa Park? Have your say by voting in the poll below.

West Bromwich Albion fans excited by what Sako can bring

When West Bromwich Albion announced that Bakary Sako had finalised a move to The Hawthorns it came as no big surprise.

The attacker has been a free agent since the end of last season after he was released by Crystal Palace.

At one point the 30-year-old was linked to Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, but after spending a few weeks training with the Baggies, a contract was offered.

The Mali international has signed a season-long contract in a bid to help West Brom achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

Sako has plenty of experience in the English game having played for Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he spent three years between 2012 and 2015.

During that time the winger made 124 appearances, scoring 38 goals and creating 36 assists.

On Twitter plenty of West Brom fans posted their thoughts on the new arrival, and they were all positive.

Darren Moore’s team are currently third in the Championship table, two points adrift of leaders Leeds United with a game in hand.

Liverpool fans react as Klopp eyes Barella move

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to some promising transfer news, as the Reds are reportedly eyeing a deal for Italy starlet Nicolo Barella.

According to Football Italia, Liverpool are leading the race to sign Barella, who has been in sensational form for Cagliari this season.

The 21-year-old midfielder would reportedly cost around €50m (£44m), but the Reds are keen to push through a deal.

Philippe Coutinho of course left Anfield in January, and the club has been searching for a creative midfield player ever since.

Nabil Fekir was of course supposed to be the solution, but a deal for the Lyon skipper fell through on the eve of the World Cup.

Players like Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum aren’t known primarily for their work rate, and Klopp’s side have struggled to break teams down at times this season.

Barella is silky smooth on the ball, a great set-piece taker, and also has the work rate and attitude to fit Klopp’s high-tempo style, averaging 2.6 tackles and 2.1 interceptions per game this season.

Lots of fans have been giving their verdict on the Italian wonderkid, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Charlton boss confirms interest in permanent deal for West Ham’s Cullen

[ad_pod ]

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has confirmed his interest in signing loanee Josh Cullen from West Ham on a permanent basis, as quoted by Claret & Hugh.

What’s the word?

While West Ham struggle to find their feet under Manuel Pellegrini, other members of the squad away on loan have settled in well with their new surroundings and have made a positive impression on loan with other clubs.

One of those players is midfielder Josh Cullen, who is spending the season with Charlton Athletic in League One and has started five league games for the Addicks this term – and Bowyer is impressed with the loanee.

Quoted by Claret & Hugh, the former Hammers star confirmed his desire to sign Cullen on a permanent basis but makes it clear any deal would be difficult to secure.

What was said?

“Obviously if they were interested in selling him then we would be interested in taking him. The problem we would probably have would be his wages.

“That could be a problem – we’ve got a budget. But maybe the owner or the new people, if they come in, might find it doable.

“He has definitely improved us. He is a very good player, for sure.”

Will he leave?

With just three Premier League appearances for West Ham, 22-year-old Josh Cullen faces a crucial decision in the immediate future as he may need to leave the London Stadium in order to earn more regular playing opportunities.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”307232″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Germany Hit New Low & Jadon Sancho Makes Us Feel Old”]

Contracted until next summer according to Transfermarkt, an exit for free looks likely to take place but even then it would be difficult for Charlton to finance a permanent swoop for the Republic of Ireland U21 international, who former manager David Moyes said earlier this year he would have “no fear” playing in the first team.

Charlton, currently 11th in League One, were financially restricted in the summer and Bowyer was only able to sign free agents or loanees. While Cullen’s contract situation raises the possibility of a move, it seems likely he will move elsewhere.

Harvey Barnes and Phil Foden could be a future midfield pairing at international level

Harvey Barnes has been a standout performer this season in a West Brom side which is blessed with talent, and the rate of his progression hints at a glowing future at both club and international level.

There has been plenty of speculation in recent weeks which suggests Barnes could be set to cut his loan spell short with the Baggies, such is the extent of his brilliance so far.

With 5 goals and 2 assists to his name in the Championship this season it seems that Barnes is set to play a key role in West Brom’s promotion push, and his impressive domestic form earned him his first cap for the England U21 side against Scotland last week.

Following his landmark appearance at international level, Barnes spoke to Sky Sports about his season so far and he reserved a few encouraging words for Phil Foden after he roomed with him on England duty.

“Phil’s a great young player. There is a lot of attention around him at the minute, which is deserved.

“Rooming with him you get to know him a lot better, he’s a great lad. He’s getting in a great Manchester City at such a young age, but you can see his quality in training.”

Whilst Barnes and Foden still have plenty of developing to do before they can expect to cement a place in Gareth Southgate’s first-team, the relationship the pair are building away from the field could well contribute to a formidable partnership on the field.

A pair of attacking-minded midfielders by trade, Foden and Barnes both have the potential to blossom into fantastic central midfielders in the future.

With a defensive-minded anchor in behind them, the budding international’s could eventually find themselves lining up alongside each other in the same England team, and the fact they are already developing a friendship outside of the white lines will certainly enhance their understanding.

Time will tell if Barnes is destined to reach the dizzy heights which Foden appears inevitably set to achieve, but if he is able to build on his early promise and blossom into a top Premier League talent, he may well find himself bossing a midfield alongside his U21 teammate in the future.

Liverpool fans react to £35m Doucoure links

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have been reacting to the latest transfer links, as reports claim they are one of three teams eyeing up Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

According to RMC, PSG, Liverpool and Arsenal are call keeping tabs on Doucoure.

Watford are expected to want around €40m (around £35m) in order to part ways with the Frenchman, but the Reds proved this summer they will splash out huge sums for the right player.

Doucoure had a sensational campaign last season for Watford, and has quickly silenced any “one-season wonder” shouts with some incredible displays already this season.

The powerful Frenchman has four Premier League assists already this season, one of which was reminiscent of Cesc Fabregas’ iconic assist against Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp added two central midfielders this summer in Fabinho and Naby Keita, but with James Milner turning 33 in January and Adam Lallana becoming more and more injury-prone, it would be no surprise to see another midfield move next summer.

HYS: Does Morgan Schneiderlin have a future at Everton?

[ad_pod ]

Morgan Schneiderlin has failed to make the Everton matchday squad for each of the Toffees’ last four Premier League fixtures. Since summer signing Andre Gomes reached full fitness, Schneiderlin has been ousted from the first-team picture by Marco Silva.

Given Schneiderlin’s poor form, it is hardly surprising to see him struggling to get a look in at Goodison Park.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”327140″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Leicester Trump Man City Chelsea & Liverpool”]

The 15-cap France international joined Everton from Manchester United in January 2017 for an initial fee of around £20 million. He has hardly lived up to his price tag in his time on Merseyside though, and Everton would now be wise to cut their losses on the underperforming 29-year-old.

If sold in January, the midfielder would likely fetch less than his £18 million Transfermarkt valuation, but if Everton are serious about mounting a challenge for European football then Schneiderlin is the kind of deadweight they must shed their squad of.

What do you think, Toffees fans – can Schneiderlin still have a part to play under Silva?
