West Brom fans discuss Dwight Gayle after deadline day admission

[ad_pod ]

According to the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle rejected a return to West Brom, signalling his desire to stay and fight for a place at St James’ Park which has sparked mass debate on Twitter between members of the Hawthorns support.

The 28-year-old appears to be a popular figure in the West Midlands after his goal-laden exploits helped guide the club to the Championship playoffs last season – he scored 24 goals in 40 appearances as the Baggies lost to eventual winners Aston Villa.

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic went on a last-minute dash for some new signings on deadline day, securing four new names including a striker in Southampton’s Charlie Austin who joined the club in a £4m move.

The club were only able to offer Gayle another season-long loan with the possibility of signing him permanently if the club won promotion this coming season but it is reported that the 2017 Championship winner turned it down.

One supporter said it was very surprising to hear whilst another added that it hurt to read the reports which emerged late after the deadline had passed.

Others couldn’t put the blame on the 28-year-old claiming it is understandable at this stage of his career with one fan adding that Gayle has their love but it’s time to move on.

Here’s the best of the reaction…

Rangers could make breakthrough with loan swoop for Ryan Kent

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Journalist Andrew Dickson claims it is looking “increasingly likely†that Rangers will indeed sign Ryan Kent this summer.

What’s the story?

Steven Gerrard has made no secret of hisÂadoration for Kent and desire to bring the 22 year-old back to Ibrox for this season, after the Liverpool youngster enjoyed a phenomenal season in Glasgow last term.

He grabbed six goals and nine assists and scooped the PFA Young Player of the Year award, and the manager clearly wanted him back, but said the Gers have been priced out of a move.

Dickson though, a freelance reporter who has featured on Sky Sports and Sky News, claims a loan with an obligation to buy could see the deal get done.

Get it done

Rangers fans were irked by the fact Kent was left out of Liverpool’s Under-23 side earlier this week, and the latest update is surely music to their ears.

Not only was Kent fantastic last season, but with Sheyi Ojo impressing on the opposite flank so far this campaign, placing Kent on the left would wreak absolute havoc.

Both have exceptional pace and skill, both are extremely direct, and Ojo has even started to find his shooting boots in this campaign, with four goals and three assists to his name already.

End product had been a criticism of both players early in their careers, but both of them improved or are improving under Gerrard, and one can only imagine the fear in a defender’s eyes when they see a front three of Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ojo charging at them.

The Gers have bagged a ridiculous 30 goals so far in 9 games this campaign, and signing Kent would add yet another electric forward to Gerrard’s ranks.

If the deal is looking likely, as Dickson claims, they simply must get it over the line.

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang jokes around with Nicolas Pepe and Mesut Ozil

[ad_pod ]

The new 2019/20 Premier League has so far been quite a success for Arsenal.

Unai Emery’s troops had more than just a decent transfer window during the summer and have then won two out of their first two games in the new campaign, clinching all six points that were available.

Their opening game pitted them against Newcastle at St. James’ Park and the second one against Burnley at the Emirates.

Both games were pretty close but the Gunners made it out with a pair of victories under their belts.

For that reason, it’s not really surprising to see that morale is pretty high in the camp.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has certainly made sure of that in his latest hilarious video on Instagram.

Aubameyang first bantered Nicolas Pepe when the young star had trouble entering the freezing pool at Arsenal’s facilities.

The pacy forward was almost in tears laughing taking the video while Pepe didn’t really enjoy it as much.

Later on, when they exited the pool and hit the locker rooms, Aubameyang filmed Mesut Ozil drying his hair, which also seemed to be pretty hilarious for the Gabon man.

He even called Ozil a “model” while the German just looked confused by everything that’s happening.

The next game for Arsenal will be a particularly difficult one as they have to face Liverpool on 24 August.

Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez must grow up and accept some responsibility

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to BBC Sport, Alexis Sanchez has opened up on his time at Manchester United following his loan move to Inter.

What did he say?

The Chile international arrived from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the 2018 January transfer window, but failed to produce anywhere near the kind of form that he showed at the Emirates.

After scoring just five goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, Sanchez was given the green-light to complete a season-long loan move to Serie A giants Inter.

Now, the 30-year-old has insisted he does not regret joining United, but admitted he was left confused as to why he didn’t feature more during his time at the club.

He said: “I’m very happy I went to Manchester United. I’ve always said that. It’s the club that’s won the most in England. When I went to Arsenal it was fantastic – I was happy there – but United were growing at the time, they were buying players to win something. I wanted to join them and win everything. I don’t regret going there.

“I think that I’m happy when I play for my national team. I was happy at Manchester United too, but I’ve always said to my friends: I want to play. If they would let me play I’ll do my best. Sometimes I’d play 60 minutes then I wouldn’t play the next game – and I didn’t know why.”

Take some responsibility

Whilst there were mitigating factors, like injuries, that played a part in Sanchez’s remarkable decline at Old Trafford, the Chilean must also take part of the blame for his failure at United.

The forward didn’t have the excuse of adapting to a new country or a new league like some others. He was the star of the show at Arsenal, proved himself in the Premier League, and was nominated for the PFA’s Players’ Players of the Year award in 2017. Hardly the kind of player who needed time to adjust to a move to a fellow top-four rival.

His surprise at playing 60 minutes and then not playing the next game is odd. His goal record for the club simply speaks for itself, and both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho felt the team were better off without him. Perhaps it’s time for Sanchez to own up to his part in his failed move to United.

Everton striker Moise Kean’s int’l goal will be crucial to kickstarting his season

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Moise Kean scored on his seventh appearance for Italy U21s on Tuesday and it could be just what he needs to have a successful season.

The 19-year-old arrived at Goodison Park in the summer with some expectation on his shoulders due to the £27.5m fee he cost Everton, as well as having a growing reputation of a striker who had performed well when called upon for Juventus.

It is possible that the pressure is weighing heavy as he is still yet to get off the mark for the Toffees, whilst the fact he made only six passes in his last match against Wolves shows he is yet to adjust to English football.

Despite that, he has proved useful to Everton on occasion and his impact from the bench, especially against Watford when he had two shots in 19 minutes, shows he could still be effective this year.

The striker may have been slightly frustrated by his limited game time and inability to score for his new club, and therefore to grab a goal for his country will be of huge relief, and help with his confidence.

He will be able to use that to spur him on in training and when he is given an opportunity to start by Marco Silva, who already seems to be impressed with his contribution, as Kean has started Everton’s last two matches.

Despite that, it is important he gets to grip with the Everton squad quickly in order to get off the mark for the Toffees. Failure to do so could see his confidence wane and with the likes of Cenk Tosun performing well on international duty there will be competition for places.

It is possible that his manager will decide to utilise him alongside a strike partner, possibly Tosun, in order to get the best out of Kean, as that is a system which suits the Italian, with many of his Juventus goals coming when he had another striker to work with.

Real Madrid could get their Galactico signing with Christian Eriksen

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

All summer long, Real Madrid have been longing for their Galactico signings, or at least, that was the narrative the media around them tried to create. And when that pursuit yielded no real results, and they ended up bringing in just one star, it was labelled as a failure. But now, if the reports from AS are to be believed, Los Blancos have finally found their man.

What’s the word, then?

Real Madrid have been flirting with Paul Pogba for a while now and though nothing is for certain, it does look unlikely that a deal will be struck anytime soon.

At least that’s what the reported €200m (£178,6m) asking price would indicate at first. AS also go on to say that Manchester United will be looking to offer the Frenchman a new contract, which would make things a lot more difficult than they already are.

But they don’t have to be. All Real Madrid have to do is drop the pursuit that is likely to leave their wallets empty and nerves spent and turn to another, seemingly more attainable target who could offer a similar amount of quality: Christian Eriksen.

A new Galactico for Real

If Real Madrid are indeed on a hunt for Galactico signings to please both the fans and the media’s outcries, they really shouldn’t look much further than Eriksen. The 27-year-old midfielder is a name well-known in the world of football and one that could most likely give them exactly what they’re seeking.

And the best part is that the Dane is entering the final stretches of his Tottenham Hotspur contract and has so far not shown any indication that he will sign a new one. Of course, this means that Real Madrid can even grab him for free should he decide to join, and they will be able to land him on a pre-contract agreement in January.

But money was never really a big problem for a club in Real who are no strangers to spending the big bucks to land their targets. They’ve shown as much when they scooped up Eden Hazard from Chelsea just this summer. But Eriksen brings a lot of quality as well and would be a Galactico even if he arrives on the cheap.

Just last season, he scored 10 goals and assisted 17 across all competitions for Spurs. Getting such a target would be quite a prize in itself but landing him on the cheap or, even better, for free, would make the deal that little bit sweeter.

AS also state that the player has been offered a new contract by Daniel Levy, and a tempting one at that.

With that news in mind, Los Blancos better hurry while the contract is only on the table and not laced with Eriksen’s freshly documented signature.

Rangers fans discuss Brandon Barker after first Gers goal

Rangers returned to winning ways after defeat in the Old Firm Derby before the international break as they beat Livingstone 3-1 at Ibrox on Saturday.

The visitors went 1-0 up courtesy of Steven Lawless but goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Brandon Barker meant the Gers eventually prevailed.

Livingston were reduced to ten men on 73 minutes but the score stayed the same as Rangers secured all three points.

Barker’s strike happened to be his first for the club, something that provoked discussion on Twitter after he stepped up when Ryan Kent went off injured.

He impressed so much that someone posed the question of who actually needed Kent. A further individual said he deserved his goal.

Another fan stated he played class when he came on whilst he was also labelled as brilliant.

The 22-year-old is a recent signing for Rangers having joined from Manchester City in the summer.

The goal will likely come as some relief to him having endured a loan spell with Preston in 2018/19 where he failed to score in the Championship.

Here’s the best of the reaction to his goal.

Newcastle fans slam Jonjo Shelvey’s display in Brighton clash

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that the Newcastle United fans were not best pleased with the performance of Jonjo Shelvey during Saturday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 27-year-old was handed a start in the middle of the park, but was replaced in the latter stages as the Magpies looked for a late winner, which never arrived.

According to WhoScored, Shelvey had just one shot during his 73 minutes on the field, whilst he had a pass success rate of just 71%.

The Newcastle fans were particularly disappointed with what they saw from the Englishman in the first half of the goalless draw at St James’ Park.

Shelvey is actually in his fifth season with Newcastle, but he has struggled to make his mark since impressing during the 2016/17 campaign in the second tier of English football.

It is still just the one win for the Magpies in the Premier League this term, and it will be interesting to see whether Shelvey makes the XI against Leicester City next time out.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the upset supporters can be seen below:

Leeds fans were not impressed with Helder Costa v Charlton

Lee Bowyer haunted one of his former sides on Saturday afternoon as he masterminded a gritty Charlton win over Leeds United at The Valley.

The Whites came into the game as favourites, of course, but it was the home side that led thanks to a goal that was eventually credited to Macauley Bonne.

And, despite the away side having more of the possession and plenty of ball in the final third, they actually did not create that much, with Charlton proving stubborn, dogged opponents.

Another setback for Leeds, then, who have just one win in four league games and a big game with Championship leaders West Brom on Tuesday night to try and bounce back in.

Whether or not summer signing Helder Costa starts the game, though, remains to be seen with the attacker proving largely anonymous in the clash in south-east London.

Indeed, that didn’t escape Leeds fans on Twitter so let’s take a look at some of the comments about his display…

Leeds fans full of praise for Jamie Shackleton’s performance against West Brom

Leeds returned to winning ways against West Brom on Tuesday and some fans pointed to the performance of Jamie Shackleton as a key factor which led to victory.

Many supporters were concerned by the fact that both Pablo Hernandez and Adam Forshaw would miss the game through injury, but their absence was negligible thanks to the youngster’s performance.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It is a quick turnaround in fan opinion of the midfielder, as they had criticised his display against Charlton just days before, so the fact he had to go off through injury is a disappointing development for player and fans alike.

The 19-year-old was playing in only his sixth match of the season last night but Marcelo Bielsa didn’t want to take him off, which indicates that he could be the first back-up choice should regular midfielders like Forshaw, Kalvin Phillips or Mateusz Klich pick up injuries.

His contribution was telling for many fans, who feel the Baggies began to get more of a foothold in the game when he went off, which highlights the impact he had in covering and limiting the opposition’s threat.

Below are some of the reactions praising the performance of the Leeds academy graduate.
