Clint Hill thinks Lee Wallace will be a hit with QPR fans

[ad_pod ]

QPR completed their first two signings of the summer window on Friday, with full-back Lee Wallace and goalkeeper Liam Kelly arriving at Loftus Road – two pieces of business that former Hoop Clint Hill was full of praise for this week.

The former centre-back was never the most glamorous of players but that never stopped him from becoming a favourite amongst the fans – he’s tipping new-boy Wallace to make the same impact in W12.

What did he say?

Well, speaking to QPR’s official club website, the 40-year-old said:

“Lee is a great leader and influence in the dressing room and I saw that first hand. He has been through the good and bad times at Rangers and that shows the type of character he is.

“I know what the pressure is like to perform at that club and he knows it far more than me. He can handle that which says a lot about his capabilities because he knows what it takes to play football under pressure which is a big asset to have.

“I think they are really going to take to Lee because he will always give the shirt 100%, he will bomb forward when he can and be the first to track back.

“I know QPR fans love their maverick number 10s, but they also like players that play with their heart, and Lee is certainly one of those. He will give you everything he has.”

Spot on, Clint

There’s no doubt who Hill was referring to when he says “maverick number 10”, while he himself is testament to the followup – the defender was a huge hit during his time with the R’s, in which he made 185 appearances, despite never providing the individual wonders synonymous with Adel Taarabt.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

In QPR’s position, grit and determination is equally important as, if not more than, individual ability and flair – Ebere Eze has proved that the latter combination is nothing without the former, as he was dropped by Steve McClaren towards the end of the former England boss’ tenure.

If 31-year-old Wallace plays with the passion that Hill expects him to, then he’ll surely become a popular figure under Mark Warburton and have a positive impact on the younger players in the dressing room, who will be looked upon to shape the future of the club should financial difficulties continue to stunt their progression.

Letting Lucas Torreira go would be a monumental disaster for Arsenal

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has told his agent to negotiate a move away from the Emirates this summer.

What’s the word?

The report claims the Uruguay international is no longer happy in north London and is seeking an exit from the Gunners after just a season at the club.

It adds Serie A giants Milan are currently at the front of the queue to sign him and that the Italian side’s new boss, Marco Giampaolo, who worked with Torreira whilst the pair were both at Sampdoria, has thrown his backing behind a move for his former charge.

One step forward, two steps back

When the Gunners announced that they had signed the 23-year-old last summer for a fee in the region of £26m, there was a genuine feeling of excitement that the club had finally found a long-term replacement for Gilberto Silva after a decade-long search.

From 6-0 FA Cup final maulings to Mkhitaryan missing the the Europa League final, is football broken? Fans discuss in the video below…

They finally had an anchor at the base of midfield capable of putting out the fires in front of the defence and shielding the side from opposition attacks.

Indeed, in his debut season the pint-sized Uruguayan took to the hustle and bustle of Premier League football like a duck to water and and averaged almost two tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game.

His energy and industry have been infectious to both his teammates and fans alike, and after starring performances against both Tottenham and Huddersfield last December, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was left in awe.

The Manchester United legend said: “I’ve been massively impressed. His impact upon that team is huge. With this Arsenal player over this three, four, five, six years that they’ve needed you’ve always got this picture of Emmanuel Petit and Patrick Vieira in your mind – a strong presence in midfield. He’s diminutive, not very big but then he’s tenacious. He’s a massive upgrade on where they’ve been but most of all the impact he’s having on Arsenal’s mentality is huge.”

Despite admitting in an interview recently that he had struggled to adjust to the lifestyle and weather in England, Torreira did give Gunners fans hope that he could eventually get used to it. Having finally signed a holding midfielder worthy of the name, Emery’s side simply cannot go backwards and let Torreira go and must resist the player’s own reported wishes to leave.

Given it took a decade to replace Gilberto, it’s not ridiculous to think losing their current best midfield enforcer could set them back years once again.

Panini Tabloid Sticker Pack – Tottenham fan George Achillea packs Danny Rose

Danny Rose has in recent years become as big of an influence off the pitch as he is on it because of his willingness to talk about racism and mental health.

The 28-year-old has admitted to suffering depression and has also been the victim of racist abuse in his career, but instead of hiding away he has bravely opened up and attempted to increase the awareness of these problems in football. For that, he deserves great praise.

George Achillea, who can be seen in the video above filling out his Panini Tabloid, also wants to appreciate his achievements as a player – particularly his debut goal against Arsenal, an absolutely belting volley from 30-yards.

Check out George’s thoughts on Rose, in full, in the video above.

The Premier League Panini Tabloid is a special commemorative newspaper sticker collection celebrating the exciting new partnership between the greatest league in the world and the legendary name in football publishing, Panini. Leeds fans are fuming with Andrea Radrizzani over Jansson fee

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are furious with Andrea Radrizzani after Pontus Jansson was sold to Brentford for an initial £4m fee.

The Swede was one of the most-loved players at Elland Road, and supporters were gutted to see him go.

What infuriated the fans further though is the amount that they would be receiving for their key man.

Brentford have paid an up-front cost of £4m for a player who made it into the PFA Championship Team of the Year last season, and United supporters have pointed the finger at Radrizzani for selling him for so little.

Although Marcelo Bielsa apparently green-lighted this sale, fans were quick to criticise the Italian.

One Twitter user called it a ‘shocking decision’ while another stated that their former owners would have done a better job in reference to Ken Bates and Massimo Cellino.

Jansson will certainly be missed by United fans, but at the moment the main emotion they’re feeling is anger and it is being directed towards their chairman.

West Brom fans concerned with lack of transfer developments

[ad_pod ]

West Brom’s summer has had a slow start in terms of incomings. Slaven Bilic has been appointed as manager whilst Filip Krovinovic has walked through the door on loan.

Yet, it’s been a frustrating time with Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez packing their bags and leaving alongside 16-year-old prodigy Louie Barry.

Mark Jenkins confirmed that Albion would have a competitive budget during the window yet after a 3-0 defeat in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal, Bilic has urged the club to finally put their money where their mouth is, saying it’s crucial they bring in new faces.

It appears the Croatian is already somewhat fed up with a lack of activity and as such, it’s also led to West Brom supporters revealing their anger.

Reacting to what Bilic had to say, one fan said it would be surprising if he saw out the season whilst others decided to attack Jenkins and Luke Dowling.

A further fan labelled them as frauds whilst another specifically took fire at the latter, calling him a joke. Another individual said that worrying times were ahead for the Baggies.

West Brom’s squad looks so thin at the moment that they resorted to playing Oliver Burke up front over the weekend whilst academy graduate Dara O’Shea had to play the full 90 minutes in defence.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Newcastle fans react to Aston Villa fan’s brutal comment about Steve Bruce

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle United have been on the hunt for a new manager since Rafael Benitez departed at the expiry of his contract.

And while the Spanish manager found a new job in no time, the Magpies are still struggling to successfully identify a worthy successor.

The newest reports coming from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie suggest they’ve set Steve Bruce, former Aston Villa boss and current Sheffield Wednesday gaffer, as their number one target for the vacant position.

Bruce has lost just three times in 18 games in charge of the Owls, and Downie claims they are braced for an official approach from Newcastle for the 58 year-old.

The fans are completely against the swoop though, and one Villa fan’s tweet confirms pretty much all of the Toon Army’s worst fears, as he said he “wouldn’t wish that (Bruce) on my worst enemy”.

Newcastle fans clearly appreciated the honesty coming from a rival fan but they also couldn’t help but feel bad for what the future might have in store for them.

Liverpool fans react as plans to sign a first-team player are revealed

[ad_pod ]

Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed by The Telegraph’s Merseyside correspondent Chris Bascombe that the club plan to make a first-team signing this summer.

A lot of the noise coming out of Anfield from outlets such as the Liverpool Echo have suggested that the Champions League winners aren’t going to make any big moves in the window, and instead will only react in the market if there is a change with an existing player who may need replacing.

The contrasting reports are definitely intriguing, to say the least.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

The Merseysiders have only signed 17-year-old Sepp van den Berg so far, and are also close to capturing 16-year-old Harvey Elliott – it feels unlikely that either of them will go straight into the first-team.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be happy with his squad as it is, although title rivals Manchester City have strengthened with two signings already in the shape of Rodri and Angelino.

So, as a result of Bascombe’s revelation, some Reds supporters down below have been sparked into life as it looks like a first-team signing may actually come through the door before the transfer deadline.

Let’s take a look at some of the tweets…

Playmaker: Could it be "Martial first, Rashford second" at Manchester United this season?

As the dust settled after Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Tottenham in the International Champions Cup, one player stood out beyond the rest for fans of the Red Devils, Anthony Martial.

The French striker scored the opening goal of the game in what was to be a fiery affair in Shanghai, with Moussa Sissoko’s tackle on Daniel James being a flashpoint in the game and resulting in Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino apologising to United in his post-match press conference via BBC Sport.

But bad tackles aside, the game belonged to Martial, who was praised to no end for his performance during the game, and MrAaronUtd from Fan TV believes in the video below that the former Monaco striker could be the man to take over the starting attacking role at the club next season when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decides who to play as the main centre forward.

The Guardian report that United are in talks with Juventus about a potential swap deal that could see current Red Devils number nine Romelu Lukaku head to the Serie A champions in exchange for Argentina international Paulo Dybala, which could see the dream of Martial playing as striker again for the Premier League giants put back on the backburner for a little while longer.

Manchester United fans, who should be the club’s main striker next season? Let us know!

Everton fans drool over Moise Kean, Jean-Philippe Gbamin footage

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that the Everton fans are looking forward to seeing Moise Kean and Jean-Philippe Gbamin in action during the 2019-20 campaign.

Indeed, on Tuesday, Everton’s official Twitter account released a video which showed the pair in training ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

And a number of the supporters aired their excitement.

Teenage attacker Kean has arrived from Juventus in this summer’s transfer window, whilst 23-year-old midfielder Gbamin has been signed from Mainz on a five-year contract.

[ad_pod ]

It has been a busy summer for the Toffees in terms of transfers, and that could increase in the latter stages of the window, which will soon slam shut.

Kean and Gbamin are already on board, though, and both players look to have fitted in very well with their teammates ahead of the match with Palace.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand delivers his verdict on Paulo Dybala’s transfer snub

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to The Daily Star, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed he is glad Paulo Dybala’s move to the Red Devils didn’t materialise this summer.

What did he say?

Reports in recent weeks had suggested Juventus were in talks with United over swapping Dybala for Romelu Lukaku, but that a deal fell through after the Red Devils failed to agree terms with the Argentine.

Now, Ferdinand has insisted Dybala’s reluctance to come to Old Trafford showed he doesn’t have the right “minerals” to be a United player.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said: “A lot of players have declined coming to Man Utd in recent years. They’ve chosen somewhere else. But I don’t know how Dybala had the audacity to turn them down when he’s on the bench at Juventus. He needs to start playing some football.

“Maybe he’s thinking: ‘I want to be Champions League or I’ll sit on the bench. I’d rather do that than play at Man Utd.’ Well, I’m happy he didn’t come then because you haven’t got the right minerals that I want in a Man Utd player! I want someone who wants to come and thinks: ‘Man Utd need to get back to being a top team, I want to be the catalyst’. That’s the type of person you want to come through the door.”

Dybala would have lifted spirits

Despite a stunning 4-0 victory over Chelsea in their opening Premier League game of the season, you can’t help shake the feeling United still lack a truly world-class attacking talent in their ranks. Whilst Ferdinand’s misgivings over Dybala are understandable, there is no doubting the Argentina international would have been a hugely exciting addition.

The 25-year-old is as high-profile as it gets, and signing him would have lifted spirits at Old Trafford. Even more so than his footballing abilities, bringing the forward in would have represented a real coup for the Red Devils. Sometimes the biggest statement you can make is off the pitch, and not on it.
